CZ 527 Stock Question

If you are referring to the outside dimensions I'm pretty sure the stocks are identical. The barrel channel may be opened up slightly on the Varmint model. I own a 527 Varmint model and it certainly doesn't have what I would consider a Varmint stock. I replaced the wooden stock with a HS 527 Kevlar stock with a aluminum bedding block which I like a lot better.

I'm generally a much bigger fan of synthetic stocks like those from McM, Manners, and HS Prec, but with the CZ 527's having a fairly limited offering of stocks available and not wanting to wait a long time nor spend a great deal for a different stock, I ordered a laminated stock from Boyd's then had my smith install pillars and bed it. I'm no particular fan of wood stocks but it turned out pretty well and is rock solid. If you want something with a vertical grip, Boyd's has their Pro Varmint model. I put one of those on my Bmag 17 WSM and it turned out really well too.

mark,

I noticed a couple of your recent posts. Looks like you are wanting a sporter style, small action rifle in 20VTG. My advise would be to consider a CZ527 Varmint with fiberglass stock either by HS Precision (older model) or by Bell&Carlson (newer model guns). CZ had both companies producing this stock at different times. They are all but identical in shape and dimension. These are fiberglass stocks with a palm swell and 2" wide forearm (not a benchrest style forearm), and completely different than the factory black synthetic polymer stock. If you can't find a rifle with the stock already together then you can always buy new stock from either manufacturer

The pros of using the CZ is it is a mini-mauser action that comes with a drop box magazine and an exceptional trigger that can be set in a single stage mode with a 1lb pull. These are upgrades on a Rem 7/700 and will cost you extra $300 on top of cost of rifle. I own several and they are perfect walking guns.

As tmwinds did, I replaced my 527 stock with a HS Precision. My original stock curled up like a damn banana when I left it off for a few weeks while getting a new barrel.

Also - my rifle was the Varmint model. If you want the original stock - you can have it. It could be used if the barrel channel was opened to hide the twist. Frankly, CZ uses some pretty lightweight wood.

The trigger is only single stage, no matter how you adjust it, though, and you can have a 1 to 1-1-2 lb. pull, AND a 6-8oz. set pull.

Correct. I over-simplified making a distinction of the trigger for users who may not have any experience with a single set trigger. The CZ's trigger is single stage, but it has two setting (practically speaking). There is the traditional/standard trigger with 2lb pull, and then there is the "single set" feature by which the trigger is preset to the final pull weight of .5lbs.
