Texas or Wyoming?

The liberals are pushing some new gun laws thru, here in Delaware. We’re fighting it but with Joe Biden running for President, I think we’re going to lose. They’re going after my semi autos and high capacity mags. I’m looking at getting out of the east. Anybody here live in Wyoming that can suggest a place to start looking? Texas is also on the table. I like the Hill country around Kerrville.

I'll quote what the WY ranchers wife (where I deer hunt told me), the good think about is living in WY is that there aren't very many people. The bad thing about living in WY is that there aren't very many people.

I live about 50 miles south of the WY border. There really aren't that many cities to choose from. Cheyenne is the largest city and the capitol. Sheridan is just south of the MT border and where Weatherby is moving to from CA. Basically in the Big Horn Mountains and very pretty. Gillette is booming due to the oil and gas work.

I lived in DE prior to moving to CO. I would have lived about anywhere that fit my criteria. I wanted a smaller city (50K), within a couple of hours of a larger city (sports), and "high and dry". About anywhere out west was dry. So I wound up in the Fort Collins/Loveland area. But we have 2 liberal counties that basically control the state now.

Good luck, but expect the weather to be quite different than you are used to.

Lived in tx my entire life. The Austin down to San Antonio area is getting extremely liberal. DFW area is booming too. No state income tax is nice but property tax is getting out of hand. States trying to cap it this legslative session

we're here in Bastrop Co. it hasn't got to extreme YET.

WY. Would be my first choice. But I like the winter here in MS. Grass stayed green all winter.

Winter in WY has to be close to what you have, w/o the huge snowstorms. The last 5 winters have gotten progressively colder each yr. I'd steer clear of Cheyenne and Casper, and Jackson is a liberal shithole, not exaggerating either.
Towns or cities like Gillette where I live that live off boom and bust cycles of natural energies mimic the booms. In good times, prices are higher, but never reach regional lows. The farther you get from Newcastle(gas refinery), the higher the gas prices if you travel or drive a good amount.
I'd look at Buffalo or Sheridan, both nestled at the base of the Bighorn Mts, very scenic and pretty areas. Billings MT not too far off, shopping and medical facilities. I think reasonable to live also, we do not have state income tax, and property taxes are reasonable thanks to oil, gas and coal revenue taxes.
Cody is a nice place, high desert, 10K residence, it is one town that has an extreme wealth spread. A 30 minute drive through town and it's neighborhoods tell a story, then take 15 min to drive out and view the airport, I can tell you that you will scratch your head.
Wyoming would welcome you with open arms Josh !!

EDIT: No one wants your AR's or the mags, even the Dems here are decent. The state historically since I have been here runs maybe even better with a Democratic Governor.

Wyoming: that would be disneyland with snow and blizzards six months of the year. Wyoming is one of a few states that have gates on the Interstate close to every exit so they can close them in winter.

The few times I have been to Austin, I didn't feel like I was in Texas. Dallas is getting that way. Fort Worth is still hanging in there, so far but getting worse. Most of the big cities in Texas are going blue. The rest of the state for the most part is staying red except maybe down by the border. The Libitards would love to have Texas blue instead of red. I worry more about US gun laws more than I do the state doing something stupid. The worse thing that's come out of Texas in a while is Beto. Fake Mexican, real Puto. Most of the land here is private. We lease the hunting rights to a ranch out west of Sweetwater. There isn't just miles and miles of government land to hunt and shoot on like some states.
It is a hot bastard in the summer time here. I am an HVAC contractor in Fort Worth and working on A/C units on the roofs in the summer is a hot SOB. I don't do units that are in attics in the summer. Those things will just kill ya in the summer. I think about other places I would like to live, but I don't see myself leaving Texas unless things got bad. The entire time I was in the Marines, I wished I was stationed in Texas and couldn't get back here fast enough once I got out. The economy is good at this time. North Dallas area is booming. I like it here, but I'm not sure what I would do for a living if I lived in a cooler climate.

JoshB..., Are you retired? Looking for land or want to live in town? If looking for land check out "LandsofWyoming.com" also Land Watch for land... Remmember if the land is Cheap there is a reason, like no city water, electric or sewage. I spent an entire summer getting a solar system set up along with water and septic, then built a laundry room. Off grid aint for everyone, having equipment helps like a nice tractor.

Oh I like the Kerrville area too along with Brady if you want to be a way from town.

moved to Central Texas (Bell County) from the people's socialist republic of kalifornia last year and couldn't be happier. People are friendlier, pace of life is more relaxed, traffic (at least here) is negligible, cost of living is lower, and gun laws are reasonable and realistic. Yes, property taxes are higher (to support the no income tax), but then for the most part homes are affordable and less expensive than in kalifornia, at least where I am. My grandson's co-worker leases 1,000 acres not far from here which provides plenty of wide open space to shoot. I'm just over an hour from Austin and its airport, although there's a regional airport 20 minutes from my home.

Kerrville and Fredericksburg are nice Hill Country towns...

You really should visit Wyoming in the dead of winter before you jump in , I did. The wind is another thing that many can’t get used to. Towns are mostly small to don’t blink. Unless you move to Cheyenne , Casper , Buffalo , Sheridan , or Cody there are few amenities. Cody and Sheridan are small. I visited all these places and a bunch more looking to move. Cheyenne is the largest and is getting overrun with more liberals from Denver. The rest of the state is a long way from anywhere. Grocery stores are small , limited , and expensive in BFE Wyoming. The Star Valley area is nice but getting expensive fast. Cody’s and Cheyenne’s home prices are also going up fast. I’ve thought long and hard about Wyoming and visited several times researching. It’s a hard call for me and I haven’t left Florida yet but if I do Wyoming is where I’m going. I didn’t mention Jackson because it’s a liberal chithole overun with California millionaires. Home prices are ridiculous in the Jackson Hole area. It’s a shame because it really is a beautiful area.
