E-Targets for F-Class

Don, why are you against a delay?

I'm not, just don't agree with most of the reasons why posts on this thread think we need delay, also the hidden agendas of some of the posters, I see the good reasons for delay and think they have merit. If I have the call on any big match at Bayou we will look more like the other big clubs and we will run delay, as e targets become more utilizes that might change or if NRA makes a rule change we will comply. I just don't agree with most of the arguments that's all. Plus you shoot as fast as I have ever seen....

Hi Don,

[...], to address your comments about whether the overwhelming majority of active High Power competitors think there should be a delay, I just created this survey.

If you have a current NRA High Power classification, I invite you all to take this survey. I will post the results:

https://survey.sogosurvey.com/r/iwFDrK

Note, this was originally a surveymonkey survey, but we quickly overran the 100 free responses. So, I have changed this to a sogosurvey which is unlimited.

Hi Don,

I have no hidden agendas and could care less about national records...don't have any of those either. But, to address your comments about whether the overwhelming majority of active High Power competitors think there should be a delay, I just created this survey.

I’d be interested in the results of this survey..

If you aren’t against a delay what would be your reason for it? Respectfully EW

The NRA changed the classification lookup web page recently. It requires you to create an account, and you can only see your classifications. I don't think you're going to be able to validate the participants in the survey are legitimate NRA highpower competitors.

I filled out the survey. Just my opinion but I think it would be interesting if you had to indicate if you shoot F-open, FTR or sling. Purely a guess but I'd suspect that some Open guys don't want the delay because they are more likely to rapid fire than TR or sling guys.

And unless they update the software to not allow you to continue scoring while the delay is occurring it will do little good. I've seen a frustrated open shooter who thought he was out of the competition after his 2nd string rapid fire through the delay on his 3rd string to post a 199 in less than 2 minutes all with no feedback as the delay just kept spinning. While impressive to see it was also sad in a way because I don't believe this was ever the intent of what f class should become when it was created but that's another discussion.

As far as the classification lookup, I talked to Aaron Farmer about it last week and they are aware of it and looking to get that link fixed.

Every time an NRA representative has conducted a competitor meeting at the F-Class Nationals & the subject of a delay was voted on the over whelming majority of competitors present were in favor of a delay. I am in favor of a delay of 7-10 sec and showing the last shot only. Let's keep the sport as close to what it was intended to be when it started. ET's are a good idea for the future growth of the sport, but lets not change the basics conditions under which everyone competes.

I have read this thread thru and a new shooter only 3 years in F Class. I agree with a delay and last shot only showed. How long of delay I like the 7 seconds. I will shoot my first E Target at Van Meter this year and look forward to learning. With no delay my opinion this turns into a bench rest game on the ground and not a F Class match. No matter what the results are I am going to shoot and follow the rules that define the match.

I'm a Open shooter that has never shot a ET.....I voted for the delay.

I filled out the survey and voted for no delay. I also would like to see all my shots on the screen with the last shot highlighted. I plot my shots and score with pencil and paper when no e target. I like to see velocity at target and screenshot my string to review later with e targets. I look at competitor's target to see if I missed a wind change or light condition hopefully getting better the more I compete. Also helps with eyestrain and relaxed breathing. Try to watch mirage while scoring competitor and his group to learn. I shoot ftr midrange and long range matches. Thanks to all who help me in this journey and make matches like Spirit of America enjoyable.

I filled out the survey,... I also wrote in 10 second... I welcome the new technology advances and also want the scores to count towards record... The only solution is a common sense delay so that they compare to real time (pulled competition). Pulling can be much slower and erratic, I have a dear friend that quit the sport due to poor service at a high level match on the last day. E-targets are very fair and would avoid this happening to shooters in their prime.

If you want to paper plot your shots while using an ET nothing will stop you from doing so. But, I feel that option should be turned off on ET's until we are able to see our shots plotted on manually pulled targets:)

What Larry said!!!

The ETs are a great boost for our sport Even if details are still being worked through. It has no more error than human pullers, more than likely less and make pit service equal for everyone. They cut match time down considerably because of moving people to and from the pits. Some have said about to get to know new people in the pits, well know instead of visiting in the pits you get to do it behind the firing the line with everyone not just the people next to you.

Also a range can handle many more shooters in the same amount of time. Potential safety issues are cut way down. Shooter fatigue is cut way down!!! People can get home sooner after a competition or visit longer. New ranges will be much easier and more cost effective to build and run. I am sure there are many more benefits that will far outway any downfalls. With all that being said, lets all get together and get the details worked out so we can move on and have some fun!!!

Golf has evolved allowing pin to be left in while putting. Laser rangefinders during the practice rounds.Yardage books for pros now show countours on greens as well as exact yardage to pin and distances from fringe. We should embrace the technology to improve our sport with as much data as we want to apply to our decision making process in my opinion. I don't see ftr guys rapid firing through conditions. Competitor could choose to see all the shots or not. You still have to execute in golf or f class. There are no mulligans. Service rifle competition has scopes now as well as diopter in rear to center up the reticle. Guys aren't getting younger but technology is making all of us better.
