Where to buy annealing salts BR out of stock

Does anyone know a source for the annealing salts? Ballistic Recreations is out of stock on the kits the salt and the case holder. Looking for a vendor to buy the salt.

If you'll type "annealing salts" into the search bar in the top right of the page, you'll likely find some good information on possible sources. In general, the quantities you'll have to buy would probably last you 6 lifetimes, and shipping will be a bit pricey, but you can indeed find and mix your own.

One subscriber mentioned that blueing salts commonly available from Midway, Brownells, etc are the same. I have not confirmed that, but something you can easily check out for yourself.

One other source of information on salt bath annealing is Savageshooters.com where I posted a like article on Salt Bath Annealing, Pro's and Con's that I posted here.

I did do a search but didn't see any sources mentioned. Found one place but it looked they only sold 50lb bags. I will search back through Brownells and grafs etc. Midway yielded a blank page no joy.

yea, that is the same source I had found and bookmarked. I am pretty sure the low temp salt is the one you want. I had read an article here: http://www.targetshooter.co.uk/ in which the writer advised they were unable to get the BR salts shipped to them in the UK and BR had told him to look for eutectic nitrate/nitrite salt locally in the UK. Unfortunately the targetshooter link isn't working right now to verify my recollections.

Since the mixture a 50/50 mix of sodium nitrate and potassium nitrate I would start there.....

Pretty sure that's it I talked to my son last night and he said he thinks that is where he got his. The one I am ordering temp range is 300C to 1000C. I did see a warning on the Ballistic Recreation salts not to go above 1000C. Salts are $4.00 a lb. getting 2 lbls = $8.00. LOL shipping is $15.60?

The link you posted has low temp salt in 1lb. The article that I read said that this is what you need.

I think ballistic recreation has stock again.

I built my own including the Lee meltor for right at $100 and have enough material left over to make 2 more of the holders and an extra lb. of salt. So it worked out OK
