I finished up my winter project today. Back in October I ordered a Richards microfit stock. It was their thumbhole benchrest stock with the high cheekpiece and thumb rest. I had them leave the forend square because I wanted to do some custom styling there. I do not have a big shop, no mill, no bench tools. Primarily, I use a router, chisels, hand saws, and lots of sanding to take the stock from its original form, to what the finished product was. Some of the big changes I made to the original shape of the stock were: Adding 1/2" drop in the toe of the stock for elevation adjustment in a rear bag, narrowed and tapered the toe to 3/4" width, inside bevel of the top of the forend, reduce the thickness of the underside of the forend, bed a wide anshutz rail into the forend, relief cutout to allow bolt to fully travel to the rear without hitting the cheek piece, reduce the thickness of the stock in the action area, install pillars and epoxy bed. Here are some photos from along the way and also the final product. I hope you guys enjoy. Also, as a side note I was very impressed with the quality of the stock as it came from Richards, not crazy rough and the inletting was perfect, ready to bed straight from the get go.
