Twist rate for Berger 80VLD

Gday all I have never had a fast twist 223 just the standard 1:12 .
Now I have some Berger 80gvld and before I order my barrel I would like some info on twist rates , the reason I ask is I once had a 243 with a 1:10 now that rifle would group Berger 95vld very nice but the bc was way down because of instability to the same as a vmax 87g .
I have been told that all I need is a 1:8 but I ran this through the twist calc and it looks pretty poor at 1.35 So how many are running 80vld and are you getting full BC.

Running the 80.5 full bore which is slightly different using 8 twist at sea level, cold NC temps with no problems. Buddies doing same too. Great, accurate bullet.

I have used them in .223 to good effect out of both 1 in 8" and 7" twists.

Another reason i am a bit confused about this is the Berger sight and loading book say 1:8 and on the box is says 1:7

Berger has their own “system” so to speak when giving a twist recommendation. The twist they list gives the maximum BC.

An 8 twist will work.

They work fine in a 1-8" in most scenarios, they just say 1-7" to account for the possibility of someone shooting at sea level with low pressure, temperature and velocity. Certainly 1-8 is enough for them at about 2800fps even at sea level and in the cold.
At the end of the day I switched to a 1-7" because I wanted to shoot 90's (even though the box now says 1-6.5") otherwise I would have probably got another 1-8".

Ok so it might be more prudent for me to go 1:7 then as I need all of the bc

I don’t think having too much twist is a bad thing unless you plan on shooting very light bullets, very fast.

7, because you're not gonna over spin an 80 VLD at 223 speeds out of an AR but if you live at sea level (like I do) and shoot in 40 degree temps sometimes, why risk under spinning, not stabilizing them properly?

Will going 1:7 reduce the velocity ?

From what I've read, Bryan Litz says maybe 3-4 fps, (three to four). A non event.

I THINK YOU MADE A GOOD CHOICE WHEN I BUILT MY 7 TWIST I SHOT 90GR VLD'S AND STILL DO BUT IT LIKES 80GR VLD'S ALSO GOOD LUCK

I would not buy an 8 if the 80 VLD was the bullet I was set on using. Especially not a button rifled barrel. Sometimes those aren't true to advertised twist. I wouldn't go with anything slower than a 7.7 cut rifled barrel.
