I load my share of flat base bullets, I find that a seater with the drop down sleeve help in keeping bullet lined up.Thanks, the 90gr,95gr,100gr all seated fine, i loaded some of these after each crushed case, i only got 1 out of 6 cases to seat the small bullet.
Do you have a calipers? If not this is first thing to buy so we can get those neck measurementsI don’t know if i reassembled the die wrong? Do i need to buy a Lyman expander die?
What is a drop down sleeve? I do guide my bullets as far as i canI load my share of flat base bullets, I find that a seater with the drop down sleeve help in keeping bullet lined up.
I also guide bullet up with my free hand until sleeve take over.
Edit.... If your seater is toast let me know, I have a complete set of Lee's 243 dies, and no longer own a 243.
Yes the cases are uniformDo you have a calipers? If not this is first thing to buy so we can get those neck measurements![]()
Thanks. I might have to invest in oneView attachment 1089961 View attachment 1089962
2 picks so you can see how it moves to help keep bullet aligned.
I have them in all my rifle calibers,
I personally use hornady's with micro adjustable tops.
Other manufacturers have them also.
Some are spring loaded
Uniform is not what were looking for here. We're looking for a measurement preferably in inches down to the thousandth place of the outside diameter of the neck of a sized case. Then that same measurement with a bullet shoved in there. Im thinking you need calipers ( its a measuring tool). This way we can find out if your hole to tight for those flat base bulletsYes the cases are uniform
It will not if your hole too tight. All the seating dies in the world will not fix a sizing die that is leaving you will too tight a neckthanks everyone! I am going to order a seating die with spring drop down tube, maybe that will work
thanks very much, I bought one and it worked like a charm, 40 roundsView attachment 1089961 View attachment 1089962

But if it was that, wouldn’t the heavier weight bullets had the same problem? I’m confusedI think the die was too low and the seating stem backed out far enough. You were crimping before seating
Are the heavier bullets boat tail or flat base?
If the heavier bullets are flat base then you are correct.
Did your new seater come with micrometer top?
To avoid premature crimp, or any crimp for that matter.
Take an empty sized case placed in shell holder.
Raise ram to full extension.
Screw seater in until you feel it touch case mouth.
Now back it out 1/2 - 1 full turn.
Unscrew micrometer top .
Now charge case and seat bullet adjust top to desired length.
