Best 3 way brass trimmer? Revisited

A trimmer that indexes off the shoulder isn't going to compensate for shoulder bump inconsistency. It's only going to hide it aesthetically on the brass and that doesnt help anything.
That's obvious. But if shoulder bumps are consistent, so should be case lengths. And if shoulders are inconsistent, slight variation in case lengths will be lost in the noise, and ain't going to have a significant effect on accuracy in any event.

Only think I dont like about the Giraud is theres no micrometer adjustment... its all manuel set up each time you change calibers, trial and error.. i ruin brass each time I set it up it seems like.. theres no 1 thou adjustment at a time... its like a cheap RCBS die set up with a lock nut.
I use a Forster or Hornady locknut on my Giraud shellholder s. Once it’s set, you tighten down the compression-style locknut, and your setting is saved. It can be removed and replaced, without any fiddling or tweaking.

All giraud or some has to do is make aftermarket caliber insert with a micro adjust and itd be the gnats azz. You can set the cutter head or buy different ones to leave set and change out.. but the shell holder part needs to be precise to turn in a thou at a time, until its exactly where it needs to be.

The screwing in of the shell holder and lock ring isnt precision enough for me.

FWIW,
Expensive option, however, you can take PMA's excellent Micro Die Adjuster and turn it into a tremendously accurate micrometer for the Giraud. I run several on my Giraud .50 BMG. It's just at $75ish per MDA you really have to want that capability.

Matt.

I use a RCBS powder trimmer
With special ground angle. 3 way cutter I cut every time i anneal
It cut from the base to the top of the neck
The chamber in the gun has determined the distance
No guessing

I just started using the Trim it ll case trimmer, 3 way, indexes off the shoulder. Seems to be great once set up. I'd google it and what other trimmer you want to compare. That's how I settled on the Trim it ll.
Don't know anything about Giraud other than it has been said it is a great trimmer. Reviews I read made the Trim it ll the better choice. I can't say for sure as don't have any other trimmers other than Lee and the Lee Quick Trim which is a 3 way, but not adjustable. Trim It ll is easily adjustable in .001 increments.

Does the Trim-It II chamfer/deburr, or just straight cut? I want shoulder indexing, but I'll do my own (minimal) chamfering, thank you, don't need any more leather hole punches.

Yes you can use just the flat cutter if you want. Interchangeable cutter heads one will work as a 3 way and the flat one will just trim. Here is their website, but pls check all the reviews on the trimmer as it may not have all that you want.

PS I should add that that the trimmer can be used off a drill or drill press as long as it is capable of running in anticlockwise. You don't need the motor part of the trimmer.

@brians356 , you keep referencing 'leather punches' in the past year or so in regards to at least two 3-way trimmers. Honestly, have you used a Giraud or the Trim it-II? I am genuinely curious.

Can the Forster 3-in-1 Mouth Case Cutter be attached to a drill press to be used with their 'vertical' case holder:
(The 3-in-1 Cutter picture does not show a rod, shaft, etc. that could be chucked.)

F-class....if you get a perfect target, 200-20x, you keep firing until you drop a shot out of the 'X' ring as at that point you are firing for a potential national record. The score still maxes out at 200-20x for determining match placement...no 'points' added beyond 200-20X. Makes sense?

Robin

I may still have a photo of the target shot by Shawn Broussard at the 2016 Louisiana F-class 600yd Championships.

I think this is it...two sighters...unpasted shot was the 'dropped' shot...LOL:

Not just F-Class. Same goes for sling shooters as well. As I recall the record for sling was 26-X's.

It designed to go onto the cutting shaft of their trimmer units. So any rod the same diameter as that shaft could be used. Attach the 3 in 1 head to that shaft and chuck it in the drill press and give it a go.
