1000 yd cartriges

Gary you live within a reasonable distance of the Original PA 1000 yard Club. All you have to do is drive up there and see a shoot. Talk to the guys, ask questions, and see the guns and the targets they shoot. Light guns on Saturdays and Heavy guns on Sundays. The shooters can answer a lot of your questions. Matt
. . . and if you want to actually shoot, there is always someone with an extra rifle / ammo so you can get your feet wet, even if its shooting at some clay birds on the berm after the match is over.

i dont know what your expectations are but the 1000 yd ibs shooters i shoot with across the country say that pushing the little berger 107 at 3100fps they cant get over 1100 rounds without setting the barrell back and some say they are toast at 800 rounds. the main reason i went with a 300wsm in my heavy gun. this is 2nd hand information based on the owners of the 6 dashers. but they still cant stand up to a big 210 berger properly tuned when the winds kick up- been there done that . but they will shoot in calm conditions. i cant afford a barrell every yr as much as i shoot so i went with the 300wsm. if theres any proof different i would love to see it . no harm intended .i am interested in a dasher if they werent so bad.
I know a guy that had over 2500 rounds on his Dasher with a crooked Bartlein Barrel and he was still winning relays.

I can NOT speak for the Benchrest discipline as to the why of anything! I do not shoot that discipline.. However, I can speak for F-Open! I have shot almost everything in F-Open, from the diminutive 6mmBR to the 30-06A.I. and 7mm SAUM! I am "getting up there" in age and recoil is no longer something to "look forward to" in my quest for BIGGER is BETTER! I have a REAL LIFE story of a year-long "experiment" I embarked on. In 2018 I shot NOTHING larger than a .260A.I. / 6.5 x 284 and literally everything else was either a 6 x 47 Lapua with 105s and a 6 Creed with 115s... I had some good matches where I "came close or won"! However, especially at long range AND in the wind, I simply could NOT compete! I don't care what the "Ballistic Tables" state>>> light bullets drift MORE than heavy ones! I know, I know>>>argue amongst each other about my last statement>> I have developed my own opinion based on a year-long experiment. The BEST I did was at last years TSRA Long Range State Championship. I came in 6th in the High Master Class>>>in winds that were not too difficult! I honestly think that had I had my BEST 7 Shehane, I would maybe have come in 3rd or probably 4th! So what do I do now? I'll tell you. I have a .300 WSM coming in shortly and I will be shooting either the Berger 215 Hybrid or the JLK 110 LRBT. I am HOPING to RE-LEARN to "tolerate" recoil in exchange for a few more wins! The ONLY reason I am choosing the .300WSM is barrel life! If you want the Pinnacle of 1000 yard F-Open performance, the 7 SAUM A.I. shooting the Berger 195s simply can not be beat! However, an 800+ round barrel life is not on MY radar screen!

why do you think that the swing to the 6 mm dasher type case are being used as compared to the big magnum cases of 10 to 20 years ago?would not the velocity of the big case be betterover what the dash does?
gary b...

You never specified what discipline.

The Dasher is a very accurate cartridge and it can hold extremely tight waterline elevation at 1000yds. The problem is that at that distance, it gives up so much to so many other cartridges out there in regards to the wind....and being able to hold closer to center in difficult winds normally wins round bullseye matches.

If you are thinking of using it in the round bullseye events, I would suggest something else.

Such as?

1000yd?

Well, the 243 has won it all (sling) in the past. I wouldn't shoot it. Likely a 6 Creed (for sling).

284 for F-Open
