2020-21 fclass nationals

They'll just have to limit entries if that's the range that is picked. 70 targets is probably doable, but not ideal having to split the shooters between 2 ranges and staff both ranges.

Choosing a range to host F-Class Nationals that isn't 100% up to the task in terms of number of firing points, back berms, having to use more than one range at a time, etc., solely for the reason of holding it in a different part of the country or at a different venue, is a very bad idea. Unfortunately, that pretty much means there are only a certain number of ranges in the country that are really capable of hosting this event. Nonetheless, that number is greater than one, so it shouldn't really be that big of a deal. I don't see anyone complaining that the Berger SWNs are held every year at Ben Avery, so why should it be any different for FCNCs?

Ned, Your statement is one of the most intelligent I have ever read on this subject. Keep it up!
Some may recall that the NRA HP Nat's were held at Camp Perry, Ohio forever it seems ( I remember being there in 1973, God I am getting old!), until the recent move to Camp Atterbury. And the CMP is still at Perry. That is not exactly in the center of the country. Let's hold the FC Nat's at the best range available. Location be dammed!

I like Raton!

About the same distance to both for me, if I had a vote it would go to Phoenix. Most of the people who would run the match actually live in the same state and it is much easier for those flying in to shoot to get there.

Yeah, but now that Lige and Trudie have both moved from the Raton area, there are very few FTR shooters living in Raton or in that area. No homefield advantage for anyone in FTR. I like that. The amenities are better in the Phoenix area for sure, but I also like staying at the Lake Wisconsin Resort when the Nats are in Lodi. I like bonfires. What can I say, my three favorite places to have the Nats, Raton and Phoenix and Lodi.

I would be able to go to the nationals if it was at Atterbury. Yes Atterbury is my home range at 2 hours away and where i do shoot. I know this is a rich mans sport but I still try to shoot as often as I can. Fielding 2 rifles and the ammo for my son and I plus driving I can only imagine would cost me around 5 to 600 dollars by the time I pay entry fees, and those numbers are probably low.
I may never be able to win the nationals or even come close, but i sure would like to try some time. However if nats are a day or 2s drive from me i dont ever see it happening.

The NRA National Matches were held at Camp Perry for over 100 years (I believe) and no one complained about having to travel there.

Another thing to think about is how many clubs have the ability/membership to hold the nationals.

As long as it's not Canada I'm good...that place will give you a heart attack. :D:D:D

Didn’t have anything to do with getting chased out of east St.Louis did it?

On The topic, we (team 21) were very disappointed that camp Perry didn’t stay scheduled. The ready area is fantastic with the big trees! As far as no backstop, I’ve found that stepping back to the wall allows you to recognize your shots.

Is it time to split F-Open and F-TR so smaller ranges can enter the picture?

Maybe we can? Put F-Open competitors exclusively on the large range at Attebury, and F-TR shooters on the small range...younger guys with lighter equipment should not have too much trouble negotiating the high 1000-yard line firing point there???? Run both ranges concurrently with a common opening ceremony, a common awards ceremony, and a common stat office. It would require an extra range master, but as to other linesman requirements; the Spirit of America Matches held at Raton were notorious for pulling Grand Seniors from pit duty to help run the line when their particular relay was scheduled for the pits. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy shooting at Ben Avery and Raton, but would enjoy a break from a 1,800 mile and a 1,200 mile one-way trip every other year.
