Does it really matter which bushing die?

It seems like most people gravitate toward the Redding type S bushing die but aren't all dies made the same though? Redding, Forster, Wilson maybe even Whidden all probably use the same brand of equipment for their dies. So to me it seems like the competancy of the operator using the equipment or maybe how often the tooling is changed. What do you guys think?

What specific improvement are you looking for? To some, any die will work. To others, we are measuring just how much the die sizes the brass, and brass life. Still others, look for the finish, although I don't see this as a big factor to how the die actually does its job.
JMHO, but I think a lot of money gets wasted on custom dies when a custom chamber reamer is what they really needed...Aren't they all custom? Hmm.

Every die is different. Comparing the ones you listed is like saying a chevy cruze, silverado and corvette are the same since they all use gasoline engines.
Well they are all Chevy.

I personally don't use custom dies, but I'm not even shooting a semi custom rifle either.
I can say not all dies are created equal.
Looking at my 30-06 dies, Hornady's sized the body .015 smaller than my RCBS.
Both of which are just a standard 2 die set.

Now if I had custom barrels I'd probably own my reamers and have dies made to its specs
For the best possible finished round.

Now question I have is why does my redding 6.5cm type s neck die need a .286 bushing while my Hornady FL match grade die takes a .288 for the same brass?

That makes no sense at all. Are you sure that 6 isn't an 8? In a bushing die, the bushing is what dictates how much the neck gets sized. The rest of the die never touches the neck. That's why it makes no sense.

Didnt make any sense to me either until I typed it.
I'm thinking expander button is over sized.
I'll go measure them.
And yes it's a 6.
I was prepping for a OCW test with
130 ar hybrids normally run the .288 with my hornady brass and thier bushing die.
Popped .288 in my redding die no bullet hold.
.287 is in wife's 260 bushing die, si I grabbed the. 286 and resized my necks.

Now as I type this I realized it could be that I dont aneal, therefore it could be spring back.

Ok say I check it it out.

Thanks for your help in helping me figure it out.
Annealing could still be part of it
