Adding weight to stock and or bipod?

I’ve got a Ftr rig chambered in a .223, KTS stock from Kelblys and a Phoenix bipod. I’d like to add about 1 lb of weight to the setup. I figure I can add about 6 oz in the butt plate and then add some onto the bipod. My question, is it ok to add weight to the bipod?

I would think it is OK as long as your rifle plus bipod meets the 18+# weight limit. Be sure you don't block the adjustability of the bipod however.

Remember this when you have to chamber a new barrel and step up a contour or two.

I’ve got a heavy Palma on it now and don’t see any reason to try to go heavier. Plus any weight I add would be removable.

I just want to be sure there aren’t any negatives to adding some weight to the bipod or other places.

Maybe try hanging some fuzzy dice filled with lead shot from the bipod. That way if you don’t make weight you can just unhook the dice.

Where does your rifle currently balance? I try to keep the balance point an inch or 2 in front of the chamber.

I wouldn’t add weight to the bipod
But I would add the weight to to what the bipod is attached to
Myself I like the butt end to he heavy

I agree.
Giving up a pound of weight shooting a .223 isn't that big a deal. If your rifle is balanced as it is and you like it, leave it alone and shoot it. If and when you rebarrel, think heavy varmint.

I do like the fuzzy dice idea. Even better would be a set of bull balls like those attached to many a trailer hitch......

Dean a set of brass ones was my first thought..but I got to thinking about them swinging and the just ain’t right :D

Thanks for the information replies! The fuzzy balls had me laughing. Well here’s what I ended up with.

I was able to add 4 oz into the butt. Filled the hallow threaded shaft for the butt plate with lead. Then I remembered that below my action there was a void and was able to add about 14oz there.

With this weight addition my total is 17lbs 14.5oz. My center of balance is now 1-3/4” forward of the action without the bipod on, 2-1/4” with bipod.

Hopefully month of the weather brakes I can get it out and shoot it.

Good luck..the little mouse gun sure is fun to shoot really brings a smile to your face when you beat the 308s and even some of the open guys in midrange.
