That’s the best advice I have seenHave a Factory and a Factory/modified class. Factory is pretty easy, as it comes from manufacture. If you want to blueprint the action, install a Krieger barrel and put in a new or modified trigger plus bed the action, fine. You can adjust these rules to suit your memberships desires within reason. For example before Hunter class got ruined by to many rule changes you were required to have a working safety and an operable magazine that would hold and feed two rounds. Once you decide on the allowances in the modified/factory class shoot them for a year and if they are working well, make them permanent.
Yes most toe the line . Those who cross the line are called cheaters and liars. Also defined as lacking in character. Unfortunately we have some of those in our sport.Anytime i see a factory class i always have to laugh. Most do everything they can to toe the line instead of embracing the challenge. Everything in shooting ends up an equipment race. Ive seen some factory classes that the only thing factory was the action said remington. Didnt even try to disguise the aftermarket barrel.
I would like to see a sporter/Hunter class added to the 600/1000 matches. Something similar to what Alex posted so that we can try to bring in some of the guys that have PRS or long range hunting rifles.
Something along the line of:
- folding bipod only for front rest
- limit weight 17? So that they can also shoot lg
- scope max Either 25x or 32x
- must have magazine - single loading ok
- change the rules slightly so there is no DQ for cross fires or missed shots, just penalties
Keep the rules simple and easy to enforce.
Factory class can be one of (if not THE most) expensive classes to get into if you're not careful on how you set up the rules. If I was starting over or a new shooter, I'd go straight to a Modified class, or custom class, and bypass factory all together. That being said I believe that the UBR definitions of allowable equipment are the best I've seen. JME. here's a link. WD http://ultimatebenchrest.com/rule-book/equipment
You just summed up the death of the Hunter Class!Anytime i see a factory class i always have to laugh. Most do everything they can to toe the line instead of embracing the challenge. The local club I shoot at has two factory classes, and two custom classes. I shoot light sporter with a bone stock Tikka superlite. Trigger adjusted only. We shoot score at 100,200 and 300 yds.
1. Light factory sporter = you can adjust the trigger, bed it, 24x scope limit, bbl no more than .680 at some point, and no one piece rests. 3 shots for score
2. Heavy sporter you can adjust the trigger, bed it, no scope limit, no one piece rests. 5 shots for score.
