I started using KG-1 carbon remover some time back and it works great. Usually takes about 5-6 wet patches and the carbon is gone. Takes a little bit of time but, I'm in no hurry. I let each wet pass sit for 2-3 minutes. The disclaimer...I started using this product on after market barrels and it does a very good job. Don't know if it's the solvent or the barrel!

I worked for a Chevrolet garage back in 1966, and they had the same problems of new car engines burning oil. They also used the Bon Ami solution to seat the rings in.

I have a big bottle of kg1 carbon removal. I find it to be largely ineffective.

This is All well and good.Why do you bother getting them Squeaky clean and then foul the gun with a couple of shots ?

Tried ThouroughClean system on a couple of barrels yesterday and it seemed to work pretty well. Will try similar procedure with Montana Copper Cream soon and see if there is any difference. One thing I really don't like about ThouroughClean is the bottles. The Flush is in a spray bottle so you waste half of what is dispensed (I shoot mostly 20 cal so patches are small), then the Cleaner bottle which dispenses the white slurry sorta everywhere, very messy. Am I just incompetent, or have some of you had the same experience? Will keep trying to work out a better technique. Interested to hear the comments of others, how we learn.

One thing I really don't like about ThouroughClean is the bottles.

Haven't used the stuff, but these have become my go-to bottles for solvents:

If the stuff is very thick, these may not work (too fine nozzle), but for liquids they're great.

Tried ThorroClean yesterday and it certainly works. I first cleaned the barrel with my usual CLP process...about 20 wet and dry patches. Then proceeded with the ThorroClean. Couldn't believe the black paste coming out. Repeated the process eight times...yes, 15 strokes back and forth followed by the Flush patches. It does remove copper fouling as well as carbon as the following pics show:

Honestly I really couldn't tell you Matt. I run moly in most of my rifles and rarely clean more than once every 100 or so rounds. And, mine are all hunting rifles and not for competition. I usually just short stroke 1 patch and I am done. Works for me and the first shot is well within the group . Important for a hunting rifle.

Cleaned a couple match rifles yesterday after doing a regular cleaning and got a lot more out of the barrel and then one that hadn’t been cleaned and I believe this stuff works pretty well.I also find myself not going through a bunch of patches with it either.

I had a absolute gem of a .308 barrel that was a absolute pig to clean. I was recommended Rem 40X by one of the leading US barrel manufacturers and a highly respected US gunsmith.
Both said it was abrasive but not as aggressive as other makes of bore abrasives, which is good enough for me.

Just wondering if those who are using this are using it as their normal cleaner or just when tough cleaning is needed. Kinda like JB every 150 rounds or so.

Yes, every 100 to 150. I use conventional carbon and copper cleaners in between the extended cleanings

I use it on all my rifles every 100-150 rounds. It cleans all the stubborn carbon out of the throat area (confirmed with Hawkeye). In my opinion it works about the same as Iosso paste...which is to say it is very effective.

Any wearing of the lands from the abrasive paste in the mix?

How is it being applied, with a patch or brush? Only info I've found out is something about applying it to a brush.

The product works as advertised when you follow their instructions. It’s the best product I’ve found so far to remove hard carbon from the inner aluminum surface of the Ezell tuner. The IOSSO based cleaner still seems to be more aggressive in the bore than JB. I will use the TC kit for deep cleans but stick with my usual pre match cleaning protocol for routine cleaning.
