300 wsm exsperiance please.

hi folcs.

im fixing to buy a 300 wsm.

i will be predominantly shooting 110 ttsx out of it for the wonderfull point blank range.

however i notice that there are also 85gr bullets available.. thse would be absalutly devitating on fox. im not interested in pelts. we mostly shoot at night under a lamp so i dont even want them to twitch after the shot.

has enyone ever tryd to use a combo like this? shooters notes and the barnes reloading manual suggest a vel of roughly 4100- 4200 fps.

if so have you managed to get them to group.

best

I have two customers who are on 110's (with IMR8208) from Tikka T3's that they use for coyote.
Devastating is the word I will use for what they do to a coyote, with 1/2-MOA capability at 500yds.

For your planned use of 85gr bullets at those speeds, I'll suggest: keep the copper cleaned out of it (every few shots), no long or fast strings, and you should get some barrel life. Light bullets with speed create a lot of friction and barrel heat, being my point.

Let us know how they work out for ya....
There is slot that needs to Happen before I get the rifle. Permits and the like...

Pleased to that there's reports of good groups with this combo.

Thanks for the advice.

I dont have any experience with a 110ttsx in the 300wsm. but I did shoot a fox, about a month ago, with the 150ttsx. It was devastating to stay the least. They are moving about 3300fps. The round also did a number on a doe I shot this season. I am shooting them out of a 24 inch 1:10 twist proof carbon barrel. It is consistent .5 to .750 groups at100 the factory barnes ammo. I have been a huge fan or Barnes bullets for a long time.

accuracy seems to be fairly good in the caliber from what ive read.
have you ever hand loaded for it? if so did it take much tweaking or was it fairly acurate right out of the gate?

I'm not sure what 85 grainers you've looked into, but if they're not monolithic they will not make it to the target out of a 300wsm. You'll be shooting puffs of dusty led.

Stick with the proven 110 ttsx. RL-17 will give top speeds.

I have not had the time yet. I literally chambered the barrel in the middle of rifle season. So it was straight to the range then to the woods.

I cut my buddy's barrel with the same reamer earlier this year and he had smk 175s grouping great at 1k without much trouble.

I shoot a custom 300WSM - barrel and Action Is Lawton - 15” twist 30” long.I shoot the 125 Nosler BT at 4100fps - accurate and very effective on ground hogs.
