Re not to trim more 4 times

I have read in a couple of threads that we are advised (by Lyman?) not to trim more than 4 times.

In my humble opinion the above-mentioned advice seems cobblers given even my limited real-life experience.

What say you reloading gurus?

BTW, my expander ball is now moth-balled.
