Gun Safe for BR Rifles

Terry

I'm looking for a grun safe that will actually hold BR and other scoped rifles. Even the 60+ safes show half of them filled with shelving. Does anyone make them w/o shelving? Just guns would be great.

Thanks!

I redid the interiors of both mine, if you have any woodworking skills at all it is not that tough. Most safes aren't set up to handle huge scopes with knobs against the sides or back wall.
If you go into it knowing you will modify it, makes buying one easier.
I can pm pics of mine if you like.

The numbers advertised for safes seem to be h&r single shot shotgun specs . A rifle witha bolt hanging out one side and a side focus knob on the other is automatically a 3 gun spot in said safe. I just rotate my stock for the season at hand to keep any from spoiling :)

For me, the answer was to just buy another safe. I bought a cannon 80 gun safe on sale at tractor supply and it works good. It’s not nearly as nice as my liberty but it works good and I can’t complain about the price, it was 999 bucks on sale. Only thing I hate is I have to pull the suppressors off the 28 and 30 inch barrels bc the safe is to short, that is if I want any kind of top shelf left in it.

Terry, like said above, buy more safes. My safe with traditional hunting rifles and shot guns do not come close to the advertised numbers. BR or target rifles divide by 3. Saw an add for a spring plunger that goes in the end of the barrel and holds against the safe's ceiling, allowing the removal of the traditional racks, but never bought them. As others have noted, a determined thief will find breaking in a safe, a small, easily solved problem. Have one tradition gun safe and three hidden StackOn units. My local dealer told me about a shooter with a built in vault that was robbed, in my area. Most of the "handing marks" on my guns are a direct result of safe removal. Tried staggering rifles and shotguns together with little success. Trying to store scoped rifles across from each other, also did not work well. Guess the designers live on a different planet.

Who would go through the door
I have a friend that has a concrete vault with a bank safe door
He went away for the weekend and they defaulted the security system
And cleans him out
Never touched the doors

In many safes the horizontal shelves are removable. In my safe, all the dividers are removable even the central vertical divider. Just check features before you buy.

If you remove the scopes and rings, you can get quite a few BR rifles in a safe -- more than you'd expect.

I have the same question as the OP. I don’t want to have to modify the safe.
I myself would not buy one without customizing it with a nice wood to fit current rifles with some anticipation of what will come.
Even the most beautiful safe is no different than a new vehicle, you only open the door and marvel at it for the first 2 weeks, just like opening your garage door or peering out the front window to view the new PU in the driveway. The euphoria is gone in 2 weeks, on to thermal night vision or something, lol

Terry, we have seen your wood working shop and skills. Gut a safe and make custom racks. You know ones that actually fit scoped rifles and not a bunch of single shot shot guns and pump action 22's.

I have a Summit safe that I really like. The Summit has slide-out racks that work much better for me. Instead of telling you about mine, you might just want to check them out and their sliding rack system. Can order them in whatever configuration you want. http://summitsafes.com/

I have always thought that a safe body big enough
to hold all your guns on a carousel would be a great idea.
If you had many guns the size wouldn't be practical but
it should eliminate safe dings. LDS

I have a friend that is a FFL. He operates out of his home, which he had built. The first time I visited him, he asked if I wanted to see his gun room. Look at guns, absolutely. Well we walked down the hall way passing bedroom type door after door, then we came to an opening with a safe door in place of a room door. Opened the safe door and it was a complete room. He had the walls, ceiling and floor all built out of reinforced concrete when the foundation was being built. Room measured 12 feet x 12 feet. Plenty of room for every gun.
As an FFL he does a lot of his selling and buying at gun shows. He gets a lot of people bringing in antique WWI and WWII firearms.
I asked if I could add a bed and move in. He said if he kept buying guns, he would be the one that would have to move for protection from his wife.
Sorry, a bit off topic but reading these posts got me thinking about his gun room/safe.
