Is there a source that is still doing Nitride Coating for barrels?
Has anyone reached any conclusions on whether or not it extends barrel life? I think I am mainly looking at something like a 6BRA for PRS type events and would like to make a barrel last around 3000 rounds.
https://apps.dtic.mil/docs/citations/AD0894721 Check the "Conclusions" part first. Saves time.. It was concluded that although the titanium carbonitride liner material offered surface protection, base materials with improved high temperature capability will also be required to achieve longer lifetimes for barrels.
Given the time and expense of coating bullets, the reduction in friction is not cost effective for most applications.
Dusty, How would you know that?
Barrels are a consumable. Id rather one last 1500rds and shoot than lose for 3000
