Barrel Nitride Coating

Is there a source that is still doing Nitride Coating for barrels?

Has anyone reached any conclusions on whether or not it extends barrel life? I think I am mainly looking at something like a 6BRA for PRS type events and would like to make a barrel last around 3000 rounds.

Barrels are a consumable. Id rather one last 1500rds and shoot than lose for 3000

Looks like nitrogen, added to triple based powders for cannons, would extend barrel life?

Given the time and expense of coating bullets, the reduction in friction is not cost effective for most applications.

Dusty, How would you know that?

Got one out of the first batch of coated ones and had another proven winner done about 3yrs ago plus i know a bunch that had it done one time. At least i gave it 2 chances

I've had several barrels done by H&M in Houston. I have kept an accurate shot log and group log on both. I will not have anymore nitrided. Barrel life was not extended vs the untreated ones. I agree that it's better to screw on a new barrel . I do see a benefit to having an action and bolt treated.
