I had about the same experience with a 6.0x47!
My 6br, BRX, and Dasher were super simple!
I tried the 6x47 and tossed it as well!

I’ve gotten Grinch, 6BR, 6BRA ALL to shoot the way I thought they should! But the Dasher drove me nuts. At 600 yard Benchrest it’s been quite awhile since I’ve seen a Dasher win. Mostly 6BRs and BRAs getting it done.
There’s no doubt it’s a capable cartridge but I came out about three years ago and said the Dasher was finicky! Wow for that time it was blasphemy! Now some of the guys that thought I was crazy, agree with me!
But Hey I’m an admitted Dasher Basher! But If Dasher is your way! Who am I to say!

That was when everyone was handicapped with a dasher! No telling how scary you'd be with a BRX OR BRA!Been a few months now anyway I guess, and a couple years since it won everything. For what it’s worth, I ran the same same powder charge all year long, in 5 different Dasher barrels and 2 separate rifles with the only difference being seating depth/chasing the lands in 2016. There’s nothing wrong with a Dasher but if y’all wanna give up on it, that’s fine with me. Lol

If you get your 284/Shehane tuned right it will hang with any 6mm at mid-range Fclass. If the wind really gets up the 6mm's go bye bye....just for the record I have shot a 6br,6Dasher,6SLR and a 6BRA (still shoot this one on "good days") for mid-range Fclass.
I don't shoot F-class so I'm gonna trust you. In 600 benchrest 284/Shehane, as good as they do shoot, can be competitive but you're not gonna win with it. I have an absolute hammer HG barrel (60# total gun) that shoots almost as small as my dashers in testing. With sight in periods and 5 shot groups, the 284 will blow around just as much as the 6's at the end of the day. I know it doesn't sound right but I proved it to myself anyway. I could manage 2nds and 3rds with it but that was about it. Put a dasher barrel back on and won a lot.
Apples (Benchrest) to Oranges (F class), in my opinion.
That's why I qualified my statement...
I'm look to build a new 6mm rifle for Mid Range only and dont know what direction to go. (I have a 284 for long range). I had a BR recently but want an improved this go round.
I'm stuck on the Dasher, BRA or BRX. What direction would you go and why?
Thanks,
Jeff

Look at the results from 2018 IBS 1000 yard Nationals. In my opinion, the Dasher kicked the BRA's ass even though there were more BRA's. If you couldn't get a Dasher to shoot, something was wrong, maybe reamer. I have my flame suit on. MattI’ve gotten Grinch, 6BR, 6BRA ALL to shoot the way I thought they should! Hello to everyone,Let me start by saying thank you for all the great info you share with newbies like me. I'am new to competition shooting and building my first benchrest rifle currently with Dave Bruno. I have chosen the 6BRA .268 neck exclusively for 600 IBS at the bridgeville De range ( i live 30 miles from there in Maryland) Roy Hunter LR stock, nightforce competition 15-55x52, Bat MB action , Bix n andy trigger, Krieger 28" 7.5 twist .237 barrel with Ezell tuner. I understand most shoot H4895 around 30 to 31 grains. I fully intend on testing with that powder starting low of course but would like to test other powders as well for the exact reason you stated Mr. Wheeler to avoid forcing a powder on a barrel. I don't want to just take what I read as exactly what I will use, I want the barrel to tell me what it wants. I just don't know where to start with other powders. Any suggestions would help greatly. Thanks again, J.D. BakerThis hard to tune stuff cracks me up. Nothing on a BR case head is "hard to tune". Sometimes you get a good barrel that likes the first thing you give it, thats not easy to tune, thats giving the barrel what it wants. Give the best barrel a powder/bullet it doesnt like and its hard to tune. I can send 10 barrels to one guy and all 10 will win matches without a mention of hard to tune another guy may get a bad barrel every time. Its knowing how to tune and figuring out what to do next by looking at the target. When I first got into competition all I did was tune, I burnt out barrels learning. I wish there was a good tuning reference I could point guys to but there is very little quality info. I would bet if a guy took 3 or 4 bullets and 3-4 powders as well as some different primers to the range and shot 3 shot groups with different combos he would not have many hard to tune barrels anymore. Every new dasher barrel I got would get that treatment and after that first day at the range I knew what powder/bullet/primer to start tuning with. The barrel I shot more 1s at 1k with ended up liking Varget, the only barrel I have ever owned that prefered Varget, if I forced H4895 or rl15 down it like usual it would have been one of those hard to tune or bad barrels.
Big difference between a 6.5x47 and a 6x47. The 6.5 wants to shoot and seems to be easy to tune. I think the capacity is too much for a good 6. Seen lots of them at 1000 yards and none were very competitive. On the other hand, the 6.5 version set some records and is winning. MattSurprisingly, my 6.5x47 is one of my most accurate rifles!!!!!! And was very easy to dial in!
