Help me decide which 6mm version - Dasher, BRA, BRX

I'm look to build a new 6mm rifle for Mid Range only and dont know what direction to go. (I have a 284 for long range). I had a BR recently but want an improved this go round.

I'm stuck on the Dasher, BRA or BRX. What direction would you go and why?

Thanks,

Jeff

A buddy of mine shoots a BRX. He mainly went that route so he could still use his 6br dies. He does very well with it at 600 yd matches and wins a few of them also. If I were to do a BR improved Id probably go this way too since I already have the dies.

BRA, easy to form GOOD cases, Same velocity as a Dasher, Very accurate.
Much easier on the throat than the Dasher. Just personal observations in mine.
I have both.

A BRX or Dasher...even with 6br dies if you don't have a die to size the web of a BRX case you will get bolt click.

I was all set to do the BRA (this board is heavily favoring right now so that will be the majority) but after reading here and have several buddies have issues keeping them in tune. I opted to stick with a dasher on my last barrel. The same stuff that works in the north doesn't work in the south....and that goes for more than just gun stuff :)

I have all 3. I settled on the BRX. The Dasher and BRX are twins in capacity and I already had BR dies. The BRA I don't feel is as versatile. I like 110SMK's and the case is just slightly small compared to the BRX and Dasher. The larger cases open the door to RL16 which is my go to powder for that size case but is too bulky for the BRA. I know a lot of guys get a lot of speed out of the BRA but mine never has. It is extremely accurate, but so are the BRX and Dasher.

With all 3 cases you load and go to a 3x600 and fire form with 10/X ring accuracy.

Personally a BRX or Dasher with a 7.3"-7.5" is as versatile as you can get. You can run pretty much any powder and bullet applicable to the 6mm bore.

If I were only shooting benchrest I might choose the BRA for it's slight edge in ultimate agging, but don't confuse benchrest and F Open. They are different games with slightly different needs. And even then the Dasher and BRX are still in the running.

Personally I found the BRX with a 7.3"-7.5" barrel with RL16 to consistently be the easiest and most forgiving cartridge to work with.

6mmXC. I am definitely biased with this cartridge and I have no experience with either the BRX or the Dasher but I do own a straight BR and I would take the XC over it hands down. The XC gives up nothing in the accuracy department that I can tell and has enough boiler room to push the heavy bullets and really shine. I haven't touched the 6BR since I started messing with the XC a couple years ago.

Again, no affiliation but I liked being able to buy matched dies from Whitley's site for the BRX using his specs for reamer from JGS. You will be very happy with the accuracy. 1300 rounds in and still on the original 100 pieces of Lapua.

I haven't run all these rounds but my experience with the BRA has been good.. I don't get the tune issue I read earlier and the throat didn't erode like a Dasher. Speeds are there with the rest and you have zero problem forming in a match.. I give it the edge on all but maybe 115+ grain bullets..

I agree with several above, I love the Dasher and BRX, I have both including 6BR & 6.0x47.

The only comment I will make, as I will recommend the Dasher, the BRX has a short neck, and it doesn't take much for the bullet to to loose it's concentricity if using for hunting, and not properly packaged, the bullet can be shoved to the side a little. The Dasher has a longer neck.

Their both super accurate with 107 smk's, or 105's.

You had bad experiences with the Dashers?

Yes I have! Fought with one for over a year and half and went through about 10 barrels! I found the Dasher to be finicky, overbore and a shot thrower! As soon as I got off of it life got a LOT better!

Some guys love them and get them to shoot. But I am not A Dasher Fan! I’d take a BRX or BRA Over a Dasher any day of the week!

I'm sitting here with my mouth open...I thought you were being sarcastic and funny in your initial post...had no idea you were being serious. We all have our experience but I'm shocked you had 10 dasher barrels and they did that...especially since you obviously know how to tune and get a BRA to fire on all cylinders.

I’ve gotten Grinch, 6BR, 6BRA ALL to shoot the way I thought they should! But the Dasher drove me nuts. At 600 yard Benchrest it’s been quite awhile since I’ve seen a Dasher win. Mostly 6BRs and BRAs getting it done.

There’s no doubt it’s a capable cartridge but I came out about three years ago and said the Dasher was finicky! Wow for that time it was blasphemy! Now some of the guys that thought I was crazy, agree with me!

But Hey I’m an admitted Dasher Basher! But If Dasher is your way! Who am I to say!

I had about the same experience with a 6.0x47!

My 6br, BRX, and Dasher were super simple!
