I could Use Some Advice for IBS Stock Selection and other advice too

I currently have a Rem 700 Lon, Action 25/06 at the moment, in the stock furniture.

I'm planning to build a gun to shoot IBS Benchrest and will have to utilize this LA Action. I plan to shoot it in 600 & 1000 yd local matches.

I had thought of building a 6.5/06 but it appears there are better options, even if I still use the LA.

I will most likely have Kenny at K&P Gun Company make me a barrel, with my spec's as to contour and weight. My best friend and I will be chambering and crowning it.

Here's the advice I'm looking for

1- Which Stock could I go with that won't break the bank (this will be a limited fund build)

2- What caliber will best handle both 600 & 1000 yd matches.

Note, We have the ability to inlet and bed new stock, if needed.

Lastly, I know there are different weight classes, so this gun will have to make light class, and I'll also shoot it in Hvy as well (I know the disadvantages, but I'll just have to live with them, for next year.)

Thanks to all that help.

If any company you refer has a web site, a link, will be greatly appreciated.\

With using your existing action i would consider the 6 or 6.5 Creedmore. There is a ton of info. on the rounds out there and brass of the highest quality. I would get with Alex Wheeler for one of his McMillan made LBR ( Long Range Benchrest ) stocks. They are real easy to make weight with & if you get the rudder on it your tracking will go a bit easier.
If you can swing it ($) I would consider popping for a 2 port or drop port short action & building a 6 BRA on the mentioned stock using a James Lederer barrel. That is what i use coming from a 6.5-06imp LA platform and i am more than happy with the switch.....
Best of luck with your build and be sure to get a high quality 1.5-2oz trigger.

Best Regards
Rick

You would be better off selling the remington and putting the money to buy a custom action and do it right the first time. I know how it is with working in a budget but you need a good action, stock, trigger, bbl. It will save you money in the long run, ibs is a hard game to play and r.morehouse gave you the best advice.
Good Luck
John

You may also check out Bobby Hart Benchrest stock sold at Stockys - very reasonable $
As you point out ( local matches)

Revolution stocks in Pennsylvania sale a drop in stock that you should bed by you a single shot follower an chamber it in a 6.5x47 lapua or a 6xc or whatever you want an enjoy learning the discipline you want to shoot an buy a custom action later that's how I got my start in 1000yds.PS stock finished about 350 dollars.

Those stocks look ready to go,
Hells Bells if my stock doesn't arrive pretty darn soon I'll buy a Remington action and start over myself, probably be quicker!!

That's pretty darn nice"
I have to wait 6 months for stock that I can't imagine takes that long to actually make..

No more Savage actions for me:(

When i bought mine they luckily had a few in stock. Looking at the site just now it doesnt look like they have one in stock. If you have someone to inlet it the wait time would be shorter. If you call them they may have one in stock, you never know. I built a 700 LA in 284 and a Mcmillan MBR for the same purpose as you and do not regret it. E
