>>>>>>>BEST .... 7 Mag bullet choice for DRT? <<<<<<

SAM_0382_zpsdmeq6ljq.jpg

My Buddy and I are shooting our BeLoved Tikkas in 7mm Mag this year for deer and hogs under 300 yds. We are wanting to shoot the bullet that makes them DRT... NOT wanting to tracking them in thick brush. These are the bullets that I have on hand, but he is thinking about the Barnes Triple Shocks... which I don't have at this moment. I want to know what you Guys think about the bullet choices that I have now, or what would be the BEST bullet to go buy. Thanks so much Guys. Dan

None, DRT is NOT the result of some magic bullet. Fast and frangible will help as long as it comes apart in the boiler room. The only thing that guarantees a "DRT" is a CNS shot period. Don't get so hung up on DRT and just go hunting less likely you will be disappointed if they run a little.

We are not looking for a bullet that grantees DRT.... but there are bullets that have better results more often than others.... HOPEFULLY...LOL.

sorry sniper but that does not help a bit, because this topic is not about head and neck shots, which any bullet will work good on.... and it's not about the twist rate that our rifles like... it's all about the bullet construction... but thanks anyways. Dan

This is your answer.

Picking from your bullet selection, I'd go with the 162 grain SST first and the 139 grain Interlock second.

If I could pick any bullet, I'd go with the 160 grain Nosler Partition.

I did a depredation hunt some years back.
3 shoots 3 deer all dead on impact.
Sst's would also be a good choice.

Shot placement dictates DRT pretty much. Maybe "Dropped Right There" is a better way to put it. My opening day buck this was "Dropped Right There". Took a 130 bullet from a .270 high in the shoulder BUT kicked for probably 15 minutes before he was pronounced "Dead Right There". Possibly that 15 minutes could be lower or higher based on bullet design but shot placement I believe dictates the Dropped part.

As previously stated only a CNS shot will guarantee a "DRT". As far as the best bullet to acheive recovering your class 2 quarry after a well placed vital shot with a 7mm projectile, IMHO Hornady 162 grain A-Max or it's most recent replacement...

140 nosler bt has always worked for me in 7wsm. Most all have been DRT.
