Freebore, How do you measure it?

In an existing chambered barrel. How do you measure the freebore?

Take a flat base bullet and put it in backwards in your Hornaday OAL gage. Shove it until it stops, that's where the free bore ends.

Do you just want to know the general chambering freebore or are you trying to find your OAL to lands? The first is kind of a useless number as it is what it is and your not changing it but the second is something you should know so you can load ammo with a specific jump. Using a Hornady gauge and a the proper modified case is the easiest way to do it.

I have seen several discussions on freebore. Each with their own preference. I just wanted an easy way to measure it.

I do own several throaters. It would aid in producing the desired measurement.

Only if your freebore is too short. You can find out your OAL with the tools above and then see if your OAL is too long or short for your needs and then proceed accordingly.
