Looking for a bore sighter?

when using the laser type, get some reflective tape from the auto parts store, comes in red and white. I made 2 8" targets placed at 50 & 100 yards, that laser hits them don't matter how
bright the sun is,shows up bright.

Wheeler Green Laser system comes with a reflective target but NOT FOR SHOOTING as it is reusable.

How might you do a lever action or even a pump action with out one?

Put up a target at 10 or 25 yards and sight down the barrel on both axis while someone else turns the scope turrets. You'll be within six inches and on paper. Use flooring underlayment paper available at Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. and paste a three to six inch round target on it.

I bought a used bore sighter on the forum here once. It was total junk. Think it was a Bushnell if I remember correctly. My method is rifle in a Tipton gun vise on my pool table, white poster board with plumb line in front of it on the far wall and horizontal hash marks behind the plumb line. Remove the bolt and sight down the bore, centering the bore on the plumb line. Adjust turrets to what I see down the bore. Go outside to the marble patio table and shoot at target 32 yards away on gigantic woodpile. Adjust as needed then head up to my 1,2, & 300 yard range. Now if I didn't have this redneck arrangement, I might splurge for a range finder. :)

I was given the below. 1st and only boresighting tool I've used. Really surprised how accurate the results are. Always looked thru the bore until I got this. Have NO clue how it actually works but it does which to me is all that counts:

Years ago I bought one of these. It's buried in my "What was I thinking when I bought this"? bin. Look down the bore, adjust scope, shoot, move crosshairs to point of impact and continue shooting. YMMV :p:D

My bore, sighter went south on me and need to buy another. What is out there now that works good. Price is not an object

I use the Bushnell Pro with expandable arbors. I am very happy with it. I have used it for many more things besides traditional bore sighting. Right now, I am doing some creative scope ring lapping on a Ruger No. 1 to get the scope with centered reticle closer to what the zero will be. I would not want to be without the boresighter.

I have bought a Sweany Site-A-Line with the diagonal reticle to have the best of both worlds, as the Bushnell uses a grid reticle.

I am not sure how I feel about the Sweany with the diagonal reticle right now. I found out from talking with Steve at Alley Supply that the casting for the boresighter body is a bit shorter than my Bushnell, which puts the reticle a bit lower. I notice some vignetting in the view when using the Sweany with a scope mounted rifle as compared to my Bushnell. This could be solved with risers that are available. I feel that the Sweany, as is, might sit closer (lower) to the required height for metallic sights. I have only tried both units on metallic sights very briefly, so I can't comment on which reticle I would prefer for metallic sights, but my inclination seems like it might be that I would prefer a grid. The grid gives you a more precise and readable view of the exact aiming point as compared to just being able to see roughly where, by pure eyeball judgement, where your aiming point is in relation to the crossing center lines on the diagonal reticle. There are no divisions on the lines, just two diagonal cross hairs that meet in the center.

I use a US Optics bore sighter that is convenient and works well. It’s magnetic and uses a grid to align the crosshairs. Always gets me on paper pretty close to zero at 100. Works with guns where you can’t see through the bore. Only complaint is using it in a poorly lit room may require a flashlight to see the grid. It’s also handy to quickly check your zero. Bushnell makes one similar that is a lot cheaper. Not sure what the difference is.
