Equivalent Scope to a NF SHV ?.

My vote is for leupy on a hunting gun...weight is my main factor for a hunting scope and leupy seems to beat them all in that dept. Both my 222 rem and my LR 6mm varmint guns wear Leupy VX6 3-18x44s. they are 20 oz scopes with superb glass and solid repeatable, wide, low profile turrets. Prob cant find one new for $1000 or less but used you should...if not go with a VX3.
I have heard the glass is very good on the VX6 and I have seen the scope you mention and I like the physical size. I will look at these closer.
Thanks

One option is the Trijicon Accupoint 5-20x56, green dot, standard crosshair. I have two on hunting rifles.
The Sightron FFP, you need a pipe wrench to adjust the parallax. Other than that, I'd say it compares somewhat to the SHV.
Hi Hog— yes I think many sightrons have that hard to adjust parallax adjustment. My 10x50 is that way to. Trijicon sounds interesting. I’ll look through one of those— thanks

I've been doing a lot of research for finding a similar style hunting scope as well.

I've made up my mind on the Delta Titanium ED 3-24x56. The scope is on the heavy side with the capped turret model (CCT) weighing in around 32 oz and the target turret model (OLT) about 36 oz, but it has all the features you could ever ask for.

1) Price point: around $1100 (Same price point as NF-SHV)
2) 34mm tube with 100 MOA of elevation
3) Excellent choice of SFP reticles with illuminated floating center dots.
4) Zero stop on elevation turret.
5) Made by LOW in Japan with top of the line Japanese ED glass. Same company that makes glass for NF and March scopes.
6) Perfect mag range versatility for hunting. 24X for taking long shots in open terrain or 3x for close shots in wooded areas.
7) Side parallax focus
8) Rear diopter focus and excellent eye relief with forgiving eyebox.
8) If I choose the target turret model, the turrets are also locking. Pull out to adjust, push back in to lock.

I have a Delta Stryker HD 5-50x56 scope on another rifle and am very happy with it. Excellent optical qualities and maintained a rock solid POA through all recoil testing I conducted with it. So I expect the 3-24x56 to be built with the same level of optical clarity and durability. Will be ordering the scope in a week or two.
Hi Ledd—-thanks for the detailed reply. These Delta scopes give me another option. They sound very good. I guess I need to become an optics dealer so I can try out all this different glass. (little joke) this thread has given me a number of good choices. I’m glad I asked.

I have to ask sir, what is the deal with the SHV?? You don't like them?? I have one and I have to admit I didn't think too much of the low light optics at first, but it is one of those scopes that has to be adjusted just right for maximum low light performance. When I realized this and got it figured out I am actually impressed. Never was a fan of NightFarce...I see a lot of them for sale. One day I bought a new rifle and this was the lesser of two evils at that gun store, so to speak, so I bought it. I have to say, again, never a fan of Asian glass, but I am impressed.

I have several NF benchrests and like them a lot. The deal is this- I don’t like the way nightfforce has handled the situation with POI wandering in the Comps. The problem was/is real and they haven’t admitted it. Not the way to do business in my book so I won’t with them anymore and I was ready to buy a comp and an shv.

It’s hard to believe nobody has mentioned the Zeiss Conquest V4.

Or, you can get a V6 for about $1600.

When I first got my V6, I wanted to know how durable it was, so I twisted the knobs furiously for about 3 days and THEN did my tracking test. It proved to be an amazing scope. Glass is not as good as my ATACR, but it wasn’t $3,000 either.

Yeah Zeiss is improving their game in the mid priced market. I really like that they've added a 5 year no fault policy to their warranty. Limited lifetime after that. Will definitely help turn some extra heads their direction. The V6 line seems to be a slight improvement over the previous HD5, but at a significantly higher price point. Up to the buyer to decide if the advantages are worth the extra $600-$800. The one major thing I still don't like about Zeiss is the reticle selection. They didnt change anything. A little too thick and/or too much "trash" in the view. I only have the regular duplex in my 5-25x50 HD5 because I like using the turrets for long range, not hold over on the reticle. The Rapid Z reticles block a lot of FOV at long range, especially annoying in low light. Wish they would have come up with more modern reticle designs in the new V line of scopes. I also have no idea why they didn't offer illumination in the V6 5-30 model...that was a mistake.

There was a thread sometime back about all the Zeiss scopes and the marketing miscues like you state, the reticles and on older ones, no numbers on the turrets on high power variables. I posted they are stuck in the European design market and trying to sell the same here. The V6 line was supposed to address some of those but I still don't see a lot of interest. From this chair, they've still missed the boat.

This thread seems like a good place to ask this question. I recently looked through a Viper PST Gen2 5-25 and compared it against an older NF (not an SVH, not sure the model though). While it was a quick look-see and not at anything that would allow a true optics comparison, I thought the glass was very similar. The store owner commented he used to buy NF but preferred the Viper. He sells Vortex and not NF, so I suppose take that comment with a grain of salt. What has me curious is that the Vortex stuff below the top end model (correction, not beast - sorry) seem to be a bit of love it or hate it in terms of opinion. A youtube reviewer of scopes is always very coy about naming them, but I am pretty sure he is talking about them and claims they just aren't reliable. Anyone know what issues are common? General quality control? Tracking? To my eyes, they seem like good glass, good features at the ~$1000 price point.

im wondering what other brand of scope would be equivalent to an NF shv (5x20) as far as quality and clarity. Thanks much.[/QUOTE
I have been looking at scopes in that power range too. Red Hawk rifles has had the Zeiss v4 at great price of $899. Also noticed Euro Optics has demo NF nxs for $1749. I thought Leupold was supposed to come out with some new reticle’s on the Vx5hd’s this year, but not yet. If they come up with one in the tmoa that would be interesting. I’ve got another 6 months or so before I need mine, so I’m going to hold off and see what else comes out.

Yeah I was very excited when the news of the V6 line came out. Unfortunately, when I saw what they had to offer, I also felt like they missed a lot of key modern features. Left me pretty disappointed. Nice scopes, but not very 'feature-competitive' in their price point. Don't know why they are still out of tune with the American market?...They had a chance to hit a home run with the V6, but only barely got on base. Virtually no additional features over the HD5 other than mag range and a little better glass.
