.338 snipetac

Hmmm that could be fun.
Just read the latest rules, I think dated 2/2018

What is respectable for hunting class?

Alex wheeler, can you say?

The Event is done - It was shot the weekend of 18-19 August Calib, - 338 calibers did well & I just wonder how a good shooting 338 SnipeTac and a skilled shooter would do in that type of shooting environment. ?
Also, the results are posted in the same sub-forum if you wanted to see how things went as far as results.

Will try to find the results. If you find a link will you post it?

Working on a big brass order

IMR-8133 in my recent experience is not as slow as RL-33, and RL-33 is not as slow as H50BMG.
8133 may be an excellent option for the RUM & Edge but is to quick from a case volume standpoint for CheyTac sized cases in 338 & 375 Caliber.

The barrel and the same group I have been shooting in it has speed up to 3360fps now.

Business partner is using the rifle on a elk hunt and has been shooting, said the other day he dropped 3 shots on top of each other on a pc of steel at just over 600 yards.

3360fps with a 300 grain otm

Just curious....why the OTM vs the Elite Hunter?

Tod

The OTM (tactical bullet in the Tan colored box) have some pretty thick jackets, but still worth a try. I'm betting no matter which one you use it should deliver great performance in the field on game.

You would think, but energy doesnt transfer if bullet doesnt hit something and contort

Two questions for you...

1) I have some older 2nd gen 300 Hybrid OTM Tactical (PN 33794) in the 250 count yellow boxes. They have IDENTICAL G1 and G7 BC as the Elite Hunters.....G7 - 419 , G1 818. That is a different part number and different BC that the newer tan box OTM's....PN 33109 G1 822 , G7 421. Are they different? I remember (? o_O) that I read that the old OTM's and the Elite Hunters were IDENTICAL except for the jacket. I don't want to use up all of my Elite hunters banging on steel. I want to keep using my same cume ups as the hunting bullets.

2)I see you have a BAT "L" 2.0 x 10. What do you run for a stock? Is it something special ...IE tacticle, or is a regular HG LR BR stock like the Maxi, the Mcmillan 50, Baer, etc.....?

Thanks,
Tod

Tod, - I've been told by a pretty reliable source that the older Hybrids & Elite Hunters were susceptible to a condition called "slump" at above 3000 fps which lead to some accuracy issues if being pushed by a CheyTac sized case that was loaded up. (3200-3300 fps). - The newer bullets I've been told that this has been rectified. (Berger would be the best source to get the entire story). - I'm shooting the box OTM's - PN 33109 G1 822 , G7 421 and haven't had troubles with them & have ran them up past 3400 fps. - The older bullets are still fine to shoot & shoot very accurately as long as 3000 fps is about the maximum they get pushed too. (Great for 338 Lapua Imp. & The Edge and others)

On the BAT "L" 2.00 dia. action, I'm running it on a ST-HG Model Stock (Shehane Tracker - Heavy Gun) - The stock is Big, & has rails - 8" up front & 3" back aft. - Similar to a Maxi-Tracker but it doesn't have the barrel block. When I ordered the action from BAT, I had them do 2 Bolts & paid the extra $655.00. - I have one bolt with a CheyTac bolt face and the other with a "Magnum" - The rifle is set up as a 4 caliber switch-barrel rig in the following calibers: 375 Allen Mag., 338 Allen Mag., (CheyTac parent brass) and also 338 Edge, and 300 RUM.

Ok...mine are going out of an EDGE at 2920 , so i should be good there.

I have an "L" as my IBS 1000 HG with a BAER HG thumbhole stock. With a 1.45 tube it came in at around 45 pounds. I added another 40 pounds in the form of front and rear rails. I was thinking of a hunting type stock and a big 338 or 375..just because.

Thanks, Tod

The one (ST-HG) I'm running is going at around 65 pounds fully outfitted. I'm running barrels that are 1.700 at the chamber end for 7" then a straight taper down to 1.250 at the muzzle. The RUM & Edge barrels are 34" the Allen Magnum barrels are 36" - For a Hunting stock for a "L" model, possibly the McMillian Beast, if you can find one would be an option you may want to consider OR if a good Laminated stock such as the Shehane "Big-Dawg" tracker, which can be built to your spec's - The Big-Dawg tracker can accommodate up to a 2.00 diameter action and has a long "wheel-base". - No problem using barrels upwards of 40" if that was desired. This stock is like a McMillan MBR stock on steroids. - The two I have are done in Rutland Laminate and are set-up for shooting off a rest & both have 5" wide forends. - The forend can be narrowed down if one wanted that. Also Obeache Laminate is an option that is about 10% lighter and stronger than regular Laminate type ply's.
- Another option is the L50 McMillan stock made for 50 cal. if one wanted to stay with a composite type material for the stock.

@calib it’s been over a year. How is this thing still running for you?

I have a barrel, reamers and stuff ready. Just need to decide if I want to make a switch barrel or buy another action/stock

It was shooting great, i liked shooting it so much i burnt up the barrel, now i have it barreled and sitting at BAT where they are inletting a lighter weight stock for me, should have had it back by now.

What action you have?

I have a Stiller 1.6” cheytac action. It’s currently a 375 snipetac. There are a couple shoots I go to that will only allow up to a 338 is the reason I started down this path.

About 400 rounds, I am at about 30 on the new one and am shooting this now, just at 3225 Ave rite now
