CMP 1911s

After my Daughter raided my safe this is my last oneView attachment 1069125
You are fortunate your daughter likes 1911s. I’ve got my first one I bought in 1974 -a box stock colt gov model for 169.00 new. It’s not box stock now and needs much work though. wouldn’t plan on trying to shoot a CMP 1911 from this bunch in competition. It would just be my only collector gun. I’ve also got a stainless Springfield gov. Thinking of selling it and getting a different SA model. I’m surprised no one here has applied to CMP for these though. There are people out there that really want one of them bad. I will try to get that book you show as I want to know more. I imagine CMP will send me a Singer. Ha Ha
Thanks

The consensus on the Bullseye Forum is that the best bang for your buck is a Springfield Armory Range Officer. All it needs is a trigger job and a new fit bushing and it will take you to Master. And don’t bother with Les Baer, Wilson, or Kimber as the fitup isn’t right. They may shoot for a while, but for how long.
Thanks Riflewoman— I do like the looks of that range officer and am thinking seriously about one.

It's interesting to note that each company that we're awarded a contract and were issued serial numbers, 1 - not all even made a gun -( never went into production)
also interesting is that even though they were intended to be the same there's minor stuff such as hash lines on the hammer or slide stop that Ithaca would do differently than Colt etc. it goes on and on from year to year factory to factory.
I'm certainly no expert, and I'm sure there are hundreds of them however I've only seen 1 that had all the right (bye the book ) stuff

Let's go this route, if I had a rat looking 1911 with cmp papers, 20% bluing left, not sure what % the gray patina overrides the color, it rattled like a 71 Pinto with 400K miles on it, no beavertail grip safety because we all love to scream like little girls from trigger bite, lol, would you give me 1K for it?

I'm telling you right now, no way would I. History of the gun means nothing to me.
Not sure there's much history to these things. If you inherit your grandfathers axe and then have to replace the handle then the next year the head is it still your grandfathers axe?

Lol, I have my money earmarked for more productive things, I've polished a turd or 2 in my day, still just a turd only shiny.

I enjoy looking around at the gun shows for 1911s once in awhile you'll see some good deals but you bust em when you pull out the book.
Colt Talo models are top notch builds. Older Colt Gold Gups and National Match pistols are cool and those can be Springfield or whatever but they should have smith NM markings. Those were built by the Armory for competition.
Total there have been a Bazillion 1911s in production.
Sorry to ramble on I'm kind of a 1911 nut

im a 1911 fan also so it’s good to hear your ramblings. I guess no one who viewed this thread turned in 1911 CMP packet. The deadline was oct 4 postmark. People should know their lotto number by nov sometime.

8 or 9 years ago some 1911's came back from South Korean war era, still in the pasteboard boxes, still in grease packing, unfired, they where going for about $1800.00,,

edit thing: might of been 10 or 12 years ago,,all I know is I bought 4 at 1400.00
and sold at 1800.00 with no problem,,

It's just for Black Bear defense at the Montana property , they don't care what the grips are made of.

I bought a range Officer just after they came out a couple years back and paid $692.00 total. Wonderful gun that shoots better than I ever will. Haven't done a thing to it. Couldn't imagine paying so much more for a pistol from the CMP that probably couldn't hold the black at 50 yards.

My guess is if the CMP has anything like these above they'll go to their auction site and not be included in the lottery selection.

there was only one Wholesaler that had them and if I remember right there was only a couple of thousand of them,,in hindsight I should of kept them, could of sold them to Hoz,,
