What scale are you using ?

I use an old sartorius lab scale that I bought surplus that will measure to .005 grain. It isn't that accurate outside the lab where I don't calibrate quarterly and temperature control the room but it is very quick to resolve to less that one kernel of powder. I throw with a RCBS chargemaster .1 grain short and then manually trickle with an Omega. I'm not very happy with the omega and would quickly spring for a new trickler that would reliably trickle one kernel at a time. --Jerry

I use the Dandy Products vibrating trickler. Adjustable to be able to drop a kernel at a time.

Looks like a prometheus with an electronic scale instead of balance beam. I've been using my prometheus for 4 years now without even a hiccup. Periodically check it with my GD-503...always spot on.

I had the gen 1 & gen 2 Prometheus but didn’t/couldn’t justify having $5000 sitting on the reloading table. I sold the gen 1 then saved up and donated more plasma then humanly possible and “leased” the gen 2. Then after about a year contacted Brand about a transfer since my buddy wanted it.

Used the auto trickler for the past 2yrs

If I’m not mistaken the kernel dispenser is very similar to the gen 2 but on the FX120i

And at 40% of the cost of the Prometheus with 0 lease crap, it seemed like the way to go for me.

I throw a charge with a Harrells measure and trickle up to weight with a Omega on the GD 503, simple and fast if I use RL-15 it is +- .005., With H4895 +- .01 and 8208XBR it is .005 or dead on. It has worked for a lot of years. I have a tuned balance beam sitting on the shelf, in case the power would go off, now have a generator... lol. jim

I mostly shoot Varget, and one piece weighs about .02 grains, so with the resolution of .02 on the FX120i, it is near + - one piece of Varget.

The thing I like about it is that it is FAST. It only takes about 10 seconds to reach a final weight. I can be seating a bullet while it throws.

I accept any load that is, setpoint, or setpoint +.02, or setpoint -.02, because that is the resolution of the scale, and cannot be improved with any certainty.

For the RARE underthrow/overthrow, if +- .02 over/under, I will add/subtract a kernel of powder. If greater than that, I dump the load and try again. I like it because it is fast, so I will not spend a lot of time trying to get a throw to be perfect, when the scale's inherent accuracy is better than my shooting abilities.

How's your auto thrower working with the extruded powder? I know my hand cranked dropper sometimes binds up with H4350 and I was wondering since it's electric and belt driven if it ever binds up?

Mine does every so often with H4350 but a quick turn of the tube by hand gets it going again..

AnD 120 with Auto Trickler was my upgrade and can’t see anything else out there that could offer anymore. Most consider the AnD with Auto Trickler there final upgrade..

I thought I pretty much lost my mind when I bought an FX-120i & Auto Trickler. I guess some folks are more crazy than I am!

I have the AND FX120i, but honestly I use my RCBS Chargemaster more than anything.

Just tested two loads in my son's custom 6.5 Remington Magnum hunting rifle. These two groups were fired consecutively with ammo charges thrown from my RCBS Chargemaster. Can't complain about the precision of my CM. My skills won't let me shoot a sporter hunting rifle more accurately than the two groups in the pics.

Of course I am pretty anal on brass prep, consistent neck tension, and seating depth tuning which all seems to have a greater effect for me finding good consistent accuracy than worrying about being a kernel or two off on my powder charges.

100 yards: 3 shots, Berger 140gr VLD, 58gr RL26, 3105 fps

I have an A&D 120i, I replaced the weigh cup with a stainless steel measuring cup with a long handle, it makes putting it on and off the scale much easier. What I do find though is no matter what I do I can't get the scale to lock on to this pan at a fixed weight, it is always hunting between .02 and .04 - I have added weight to the pan with sellotape and even though the weight changes the hunting between the two continues.

Ultimately Im messing around with one maybe two kernels of powder difference in charge weight, so many other variables in my brass prep and shooting could have a bigger impact on my groups?

Dont get me wrong, I would like bettie performance from the scale but that seems to be about its limit unless Im doing something wrong?

Do you have the lid and plastic sides on the whole way around except the front ? Are you covering your breath so it's not going towards the scale? Is a fan or the air conditioner making wind in the same room? How solid is the table you have the scale on? And are you resting your arm(s) on the same table?

Measuring to .02 grains requires eliminating outside conditions from your scale. There cant be any wind currents in the room. You shouldn't rest your arms on the table either, as you can induce vibrations in excess of .02 grains. A bunch of guys I know mount their scale separately from the table to eliminate the vibrations/movements from the arms on the table. Then you need to eliminate the air currents in the room.

As mikeego2 said, you need the shields all around the scale, don't breath on it, don't be waving your arms around. A solid bench is necessary (mine is (2) 3/4 ply thick, and bolted into the foundation of my house). My scale will sit dead on the zero. Here's my setup. I generally pull it out a bit from under the shelf when I am loading, so I can refill the powder tube.
If it still hunts, I suggest a noise filter to clamp on the wire from the power supply.
