New Berger Elite Hunter bullets!

I shot a whitetail last year at about 100 yards, 6.5 Creedmoor, 2605FPS

Hit broadside lung first shot, complete pass through, no expansion. Waited 30 minutes, as I walked towards where I thought he was, he jumped up and ran, I missed second shot, he stopped about 50 yards, hit lung again, blew big blood clot out of first "hole" another pass through.

These bullets (140gr Elite Hunters) shoot bugholes out of my Barrett Fieldcraft but now I'm scared to hunt with them again. I'm trying the 143 ELDX.

Comments? Anyone else see this? too slow mv?

Did you point them?
How/when did you get them? I thought they were fairly new.

My experience with 130 and 140 VLDs was absolute lights out on a pair of big bodied mulies.

But he said “last year”. I hadn’t seen any for sale last year. Perhaps there were some and I missed them. I’d have been trying them if I’d have found them.
Check: Sprtsmans WHSE, MIDWAY, Graf and sons, Powder Valley . Brunos and Chattanooga Shooting Supplies. They may have gotten some in. Load data for some cartridges can be found on the Berger Bullet website here:

We're excited to announce (3) new bullets we've added to our successful Elite Hunter Series! The Elite Hunter Bullets provide serious reloaders and outdoor enthusiasts with the highest ballistic performance on today's market. These unequaled bullets share the same hybrid profile as our award-winning, Hybrid Target bullets which were used by 2016 U.S. F-Class Nationals competitors who swept in all classifications. This Berger-pioneered design combines the best of tangent and secant ogive features, resulting in unmatched downrange performance with less sensitivity to seating depth. These look great, hopefully you are coming out with a solid hunter for us Cullifornians. We can't use anything but solids after next year I believe. Love your bullets

Elite Hunters are not limited to SAAMI standards. The much longer bullet nose produces ballistic coefficients (BC's) that rival all competitors' match-quality target bullets! The Elite Hunter bullets are ideal for use with extended magazine rifles or single-feed performance applications.

Berger Bullets President Eric Stecker states, "Our customers first inspired us to marry our industry-leading hybrid target design with a long-range hunting bullet. Their demands for a game-changing product that is easy to load and shoot, drops an animal in its tracks and has no ballistic equal were answered when we first introduced our Elite Hunter. Today, we've added three new hybrid Elite Hunter offerings, now the most emulated bullet design in the industry for both hunting and target applications, exemplifying its success."

New Elite Hunter Series offerings are as follows; 6.5mm 140gr, 7mm 175gr, and 30 cal 180gr. Available now through your favorite Berger Bullets retail outlet.

Was the hole in the tip the bullet plugged? Have seen this with many kinds of bullets. One brand had 50 percent plugged. We noticed the plugged ones didn't open and penciled through. These were not Bergers by the way.

Even so a double lunged shot and waiting 30 minutes, he should of died. Lungs fill with blood and a deer that cant breathe usually dies. Matt

These bullets have our thinner jacket on them to help with bullet expansion once they hit an animal. The Target lineup has a thicker jacket which prevents some of the expansion from happening. No special data on the 6.5x47L right now, but we are working on trying to get more ready. We wanted to have at least some data ready for this launch but couldn't cover everything.

If you don't see the data you need on our website currently, you can drop us an email and we can try to get something worked up for your application.
Corey, what is the MV limit on the 6.5-140 in an 8 twist ?

What impact speed necessary for proper mushrooming ?
Seymour,
In regards to your muzzle velocity question. When you approach or exceed 3400 FPS you can have issues with ANY cup and core bullet design. RPMs approaching or exceeding 300,000 RPM is the other factor to watch. Either one or both of these along with barrel lengths over 28 inches, excessive barrel twist rate, type or rifling , barrel/throat condition ETC. that can impart excessive heat and friction on a bullets jacket are just some of the other factors involved in this equation also. To answer your second post on bullet performance. We use the SAMMI minimum velocity of 1800 FPS at the animal for adequate bullet performance on game for all of our hunting bullets.
