Struggle with slow twist 6BR

anyone know how much LT-32 can you get in a 6BR case that works with the 64- 68 class of bullets? freebore is .045". Western powders says 29.6 max (68 gr bullets) , that charge did not work for me. there is a node at around 28.8 but it has been inconsistent. i have been struggling to get my 14 twist 6BR barrel to shoot consistently with Lt-32 and H322. i am in Florida in the heat.

thanks

I'm sure that you can find a suitable load with either LT-32 or H322 but I found N-135 to be the powder that both Krieger and Hart 1-14" twist barrels shot best.

29.5 to 30 grains of LT32 with a 68 grain is MONEY. Your seating depth is wrong.

i have tried -.010" off the lands to +.010". got some descent groups but has been inconsistent. +.010" seems to work the best for the 68 Bergers. i will try again for that higher node. thanks

been using BR4's. add that to the experimentation list. this was my first foray into slow twist 6BR land. i have had a bunch of 8 twists and I am used to slapping in a CCI #450 into Lapua brass, adding any number of powder types, topped with a 108 or 80 gr Berger, and then sit back and watch the bugholes come.

for the slow twist, i seem to be hearing that Lt-32 or N135 works best with the 65 to 68gr class of bullets. i have both these powders, plus Benchmark and H322. i have Berger 68's, Berger 64.2 Columns, and Barts 68gr Ultras on hand.

Here is the details and a pic of the rifle in question.

Trued Remington 700 Action, firing pin bushed.
Bartlein 23 inch, 4 groove 1 in 14 twist barrel, .045" freebore
Shehane/McMillan ST-1000F fiberglass stock, Pillar/glass bedded
Jewel 2oz trigger
Sightron 10-50x glass (Weaver scope on rifle in the pic was replaced with the Sightron)

i also got a new Protektor DR rear bag specific to this stock (not shown)

don't tell my wife i took this pic on her dining room table.

Use 29.6 and start at touch -5 thou and go out 3 thou at a time until you reach 20 jamb. You will probably see the best groups at around 3 to 6 past touch.

I use Fed primers with LT32, I am not sure it makes a difference.

If you really want to see the node do three charges, 3 tenths above and below and do the seating depths at the same time. Then you will see the grid.

good advise, will go with it.

up to this point i have gotten good groups with the 68 Bergers and 64 Berger Columns with LT-32, H322, and Varget. when i say good groups, i am talking 5 shots in the low .2's". i have only seen 1 or 2 groups in the .1's". the problem has been repeatability. honestly, i am expecting the rifle to shoot in the .2's" on a regular basis, with some .1's" in there as well. i have a couple of 8 twist 6BR's that will do that with 80 or 108 Bergers, so i am definitely disappointed in the results with this rifle so far.

i shoot the rifle free recoil, so i don't think i am the problem(in this case)

shooting here in Florida in the summer, during the early morn hours when i shoot, the wind is usually dead calm so don't think that has been a factor at 100 yds when i do my testing.

have you had any experience with the Barts Ultras 68gr bullets?

These are my loads:
29.1 LT 32 w/68 gr HillBilly
31.5 8208 w/68 gr HillBilly
Both group alike to the same point of impact

31.5 VV135 w/70gr Sierra
All the above-loaded w/BR4s .003 off a hard jam.
Your mileage may vary. LDS
