Looking for recommendations on a 20/22 inch ar15 barrel and

twist.
Going to be punching paper at 100/300/500 yards.
Not looking to break the bank on a ar-15 and been looking at Criterion,Krieger and white oak armory and just looking to get best bang for the buck. I would like to try to stick with a hornaday 62gr bullet ( @ 100/300 ) as there kinda cheap at .12 but will shoot a 77/80 grain at times when I want to get more accurate.
My ballistic advantage barrel just isn't cutting it and going to swap it out.
I know Criterion and Kieger have a great following but also the WOA barrel seems to be very close from what I read.
Price is not the most important but is major also barrel life is right up there being a AR I will shoot it quite a bit and rather cry once pay once instead of cry twice and pay twice.

Thanks for all the groups help.

Until you mentioned the 80 gr I was about to recommend the 20" DPMS Bull profile 1-9 that I'm using. Works great with anything 50gr - 75gr. Have not tried anything heavier than Hornady 75gr BTHP in it, and imagine that is the very max for that twist. If you're not going for really long (700+ yards) and wouldn't necessarily need the better BC of the 77-80gr, I think you can find some good accuracy out of the 68 or 75gr BTHP. Mine is pretty much 1/2" groups at 100 pretty consistently with Varget.

If you think you need the extra BC and you're looking to get into 80gr I'd probably go with a 1-8 or 1-7. Good luck.

John Holliger/WOA used to use Wilson button rifled blanks on his standard grade uppers, but would go with a Krieger or Bartlein as a higher cost option. IIRC, the Wilsons he sold were typically 1-7tw blanks, which shot great with S77MKs & most of the 80gr bullets on the market. I never tried one of them with 90s, but wouldn't be surprised to find one that would shoot the Sierra 90s pretty good. However, since you've already dealt with the folks at CLE, you're definitely G-T-G - the first few AR uppers I bought for hi power comps were from CLE, and I still think the world of Frank & Theresa. Same goes for John H. at WOA - they're all some of the best people I've ever dealt with.

WOA will optionally use Pac-Nor barrels in addition to the others mentioned. I have two of their generic varmint uppers with Wilson bull barrels and both will shoot 3/4" 10-shot groups. Excellent bang-for-buck (no pun intended).

I have two Criterion match grade heavy barrels. One is a 18" on a AR rifle and the other is on a 16" carbine. Before I installed them I checked both with a borescope and they looked as good as any Kreiger, Hart or Bartlein I've seen. They both shoot. Here is a 5 shot group @100 yds. with 69grn. Sierras from the 18" bbl.. These loads were thrown with about every 10th weighed and I was not as precise with this loading as I am with my bench guns.

Chopps, would you mind elaborating on what happened to your Ballistic barrel? I have an 18" 1 in 8 on my AR, it's still pretty new but definitely has potential. I mainly shoot 77 gr. match kings. Thanks, Jim

At first it had some accuracy but went away fast. Was shooting 62 & 77 grain and could not get it to group under 4 inchs at best at 100yds if that even. Sent it back and some guy named kyle said it was not a good barrel so supposedly there replacing it but there taking there sweet time doing it been over 10 business days and nothing yet. He said right after the holiday they would do it but obviously either he fudged or there so pathetic that they don't have any barrels in stock I mean how has is it to replace a 16 inch m4/wylde barrel that they should have in stock geez. This was the 2nd barrel I purchased from them also got a 18 inch hanson and they miss drilled the gas block and had to send that one back to.
That one took a month in there hands to get back to me .
I'm beginning to feel like there using us customers as test monkeys and have lost faith in there product. There tech guy should not tell customers that they will get right on stuff when it takes 30 days to get it done personally I'm over there sorry customer service and will not deal with them again.
I wasted alot of time, bullets, powder and primers figuring out there barrel was crap and they should have got right on it imo and got one out within a week of agreeing there product was crap.
Just my .02

Mjne is a Hanson profile also, I bought it from one of their distributors. Sorry to hear that the customer service is the way it is. What powder are you using? I am having good results with TAC. Jim

Have not found one I liked it the ar platform.
I currently have arcomp, h4895 Imr 4895 and varget to play with.

I will say again I would never purchase another product from Ballistic Advantage there customer service is horrible and just keep saying they will get there team on things . What I don't get is there a 6 person business and don't answer the phones and promise to get on things from email but never do in a timely manor.

Simply horrible experience and the more i google them and look on the facebook page the more I see customers with same crappy experience as I am having now.
Geez

There not cheap but I have all the confidence in the world . Unfortunately when Im having a bad day shooting I can't blame the barrel haha.. I don't know if this helps any but just want to share my experience with a Krieger AR barrel . I shoot nosler custom comp 69 gr.
