The drunks are coming!

No not those drunks, well yes it is hunting season and the woods will have those as well, but the ones I'm talking about are here in town. You see it's fall here and the temps are dropping and the leaves are falling and the dropping temps means dropping apples and pears as well. Almost every block here has at least a few fruit trees and some a lot of them.

That means that soon those apples and pears are going to ferment and of course our local big beautiful bucks that live here in town all year are going to get very drunk. Like people some of them will be happy drunks and lay there wondering what has happened to themselves and take a nap.

Others though are going to feel the need to fight a bit before passing out. Sounds cute doesn't it ? Well ask anybody who has made the mistake of getting to close to one and watch how big their eyes get when they start to remember the results of that.

Early one dark morning i was just finishing up my walk and was walking by some apple and pear tress along the street and suddenly i noticed that walking along side me about arms length from me was one of our very big mule deer, and it was not only rutting time, but he was drunker than a skunk. So here we are walking side by side and he's looking at me like he's trying to make up his mind what he wants to do with me.

This scared the hell out of me, does he want to fight? (He was as tall as me and his Rack was maybe two feet taller, and looked very sharp.) Or worse is he thinking about mating! I could just see me flying through the air until he got tired of it or ... the other thought i refused to think about!!

It was very dark that fall morning and i had my big mag-lite with me so i turned it on shining it at our feet /hooves. This startled and stopped him and i kept walking, (faster as you might guess). ... I HATE DRUNK DEER! Walking around town just isn't safe this time of year.

Having a wild animal that close in the dark can be really unnerving. Got charged once by a buck protecting his territory, he stopped just a few feet away and we walked together to my stand. My dead flashlight wasn’t bright enough to see him but it stopped him from killing me. I keep fresh batteries in it now after that too close call. Lol
Had a camera man with me and he never went again after that!

Took a handicapped friends young dog out into a corn field one night with a barking coyote threatening us. Coyote stayed 2 rows away, dog was between my legs and my friends buddy stayed behind me. Personally, I thought it quite humorous. Dog and the buddy's friend both scared to death. Every row I advanced, the coyote would back up one row, challenge barking like mad.

Well that settles it! No more expensive Doe Urine attractant for me; I’ll just take some Hard Apple Cider or Peach Brandy with me this year.

Well some thing ate all my peaches in one sitting. Had about 100 peaches in my small tree and they were getting ripe. I said to my wife 2 more days and I will pick them. Well some thing ate all of them that night. Left all the pits under the tree. No clue to what ate them. Just a rant, it peeved me.

Squirrels can clean a tree in just a couple days. What they can’t eat they hide. Ground hogs climb very well also, especially when peaches are involved. Coons probably did if they ate them under the tree. A sow coon with young can eat a lot in one night! We’re in full moon right now so even day animals will feed at night. Put a trail camera on it tonight and see who did it!!
Once the dinner bell is rung they all get in on the action.

durn pigs will get them ,too.they love pecans also,if they can reach them somehow they will eat them,,

Mom and two kit red fox cleaned my friend's cherry tree. Needless to say I have free roam of his junkyard and property. When they go after his mother's ducklings she gets real mad...

Did a little checking on some "different" scat I found in the yard. Turned out to be Elk. Went out about midnight with my Mag Lite and saw 3 BIG Cow Elk eating all the leaves and apples on the lower branches of the trees.
No garden at my house. Around here, "If it's green, it's gone!! Midnight gardeners.
Got a family of Fox that work with the deer. It's a team effort. Fox come in to see what was left out for the cats. Deer come in to eat the fallen Apples and Pears and any they can reach on the lower branches. If either the Fox or Deer jump, they're all gone!! Deer will stand and eat with the Fox right next to them. They all make a good team together.
Three or four LARGE Elk herds around us. Always fun to see the Bulls fighting over the Cows.
Flip the side lights on around midnight and see BIG fat Coons, Possums, Skunk, Fox coming thru the yard. Deer and Elk out front, Yotes in the back field and Turkeys and Quail coming thru. Mother nature at her best.:D
