Those guys don't actually shoot. They just buy gear, type run-on sentences and bitch a lot.
The idea or issue with gear is that it helps. As you get better it can help your score. You can leave those points on the table or you can buy the gear and practice with it to pick up extra points. Sometimes it does look silly, but sometimes it feels good to make those hits.
Generally speaking the people at these matches are good people (just like every shooting discipline), many would likely give you the shirt off their back, or in this case, loan you their tripod and bag
If someone was going to shoot the "Gas Gun Series" a 223 AR would work fine. Way better than any M1a. I also firmly believe in the "Show up and Shoot!" theory. Don't worry about what the perfect gear is. Go shoot and have fun. If you really like it, the gear pretty much buys itself.
