“It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag.”

+1000 on this.. Well Said

Any person who burns my country's flag has no respect for me (a veteran) or my opinions. I, therefore have no respect for their opinions and would invite them (vehemently) to leave! Find another way to protest. dedogs
Well said I'm with you 200 percent,THEY NEED TO LEAVE OUR COUNTRY

I do believe a veteran has much more latitude when it comes to complaining about the state of affairs in the United States.

And a combat veteran in particular.

Persian Gulf War. The one that didn't matter.

All wars matter. Particularly if you are a participant then they take on a special meaning that never leaves you.
Thank you for your service in the Persian Gulf War.

Amen - I would suggest that everyone watch the Smithonian special now airing on the war in the Pacific (i.e. WWII) to get an appreciation of what our father's generation sacrificed so that we could live free. My father is a WWII veteran and I had two uncles who served in the Pacific, one in Marine and one in the Navy.

I'm a Vietnam era (didn't serve in Vietnam) US Army Veteran. Recently I had a chance to visit a replica of the Vietnam War Memorial that was on tour here in eastern PA. I got a rubbing off the wall of my high school friend who was killed at Khan San in 1968. Regardless of your political persuasion about this war, those soldiers did their duty and I'm glad to see that they are being honored. We must never forget them and their sacrifice.

The burning of our flag should be thee highest crime in our nation, I for one did not go through the war to protect the right of some scumbag to burn our FLAG. I"M sure I am not the only one that came back to fire camp and the first thing we saw was our flag(It was almost like coming home) . If only our countries parasites new what our true Americans went through, be it a ball player ,actor, singer what ever. GOD BLESS OUR FLAG
