Help me pick a 7mm

I have 2- 7 SAUMs, Nosler brass just plain sucks! Remington Brass is much better, but near impossible to find. I,m trying the Norma 300 SAUM brass necked down now. time will tell

I’ve been replacing barrels and brass every couple years on my 7mm R/Mag waiting for something better to come along. I’ve had my eye on the 7saum out of a long action but brass is nearly impossible to find. In the meantime I’m staying put. 7mm R/mag brass is reasonably priced and plentiful and until someone builds a better 7mm mousetrap with plentiful/reasonably priced brass I’ll live with the belt.

I have two 7 saums being built right now. ADG 7 saum brass should be on the market in the next few months. That will be very nice addition. Wondering when Norma will make another batch?

I have a long action and a short action.
I run Remington on the short, its been good.
Nosler on the long, not good. I'm trying 300 Norma sized down, it's shorter but so far so good.

I’ll be keeping an eye on how that 300 Saum brass works out. You neck turning after sizing the neck down? I’m trying to avoid heading down that rabbit hole...

I like setting a cartridge up for optimum performance and brass. Seating a 162 - 180 class bullet where I want it in the neck would only leave me with two ideal short action cartridges.
7-08 or (AI)
7x47L

I'm heavily leaning towards 7-08 AI. I can get Alpha munitions Small primer pocket brass and neck it down

The 168 hunting vld in the short action @
3070 fps is amazingly accurate!
1950 yard Unicorn is no problem

From my understanding the 284 doesn't fit well in a SA? Maybe I'm wrong? Id like to be able to run the 162GR bullets or a little heavier.

Scott
I shoot a 284 in a short action. It's a single shot, everything seems to work fine for me

So, I'd like to stay away from wildcats. As far as Im willing to go is AI. I dont like getting stuck with something from one source and then be shit out of luck couple years down the road cause I can get brass or anything I need.

So Far I've narrowed it down to 7mm-08AI and 7mm SAUM. 284 Seems like a LA Cartridge trying to be shoved into a SA.

I can neck down Alpha munitions 308 brass for the 7-08

and 7 saum brass..... Well that's a mystery.

Scott

Read the description for 7mm SAW. As long as there’s 7-08 brass, there’s 7 SAW.

I’d give up on the 7 SAUM as fine as she is, because of the market on brass. Way too fickle.

You, my friend, are perhaps the only person in the history of shooting sports that I’ve ever seen string those 7 words together.

Don't get me wrong Lapua brass is good. But Alpha offers SPP 260 Remington( I currenty run 260 AI until I have my 7MM barrel done). Alphas brass doesn't come thrown in a box jumbled up with dinged up case necks. It comes packaged in nice 100 rnd ammo boxes ready to load out the box. Also I have found alpha brass to be more consistent and produce better SD's and ES than lapua.

Yes those little Lapuas can get dinged up some. I culled 1 from my last box, but surprisingly there were 101 total so I got lucky.

I looked at the 7mm SAW. Looks sweet. May give it a shot. Wish I could get that switch lug set up on a savage though.

I do not get this whole switch lug thing, personally.

If a guy wants a couple of barrels for his rig it couldn’t cost much more to just buy a barrel vice. I know a few guys that have barrel vices on their hitch, or mounted to steel on the tailgate.

I think it’s a much cleaner look.... but diversity drives the industry, so I’m not really complaining just don’t get it.
