Boretech Eliminator vs Pro Shot vs CLR

Wipe out/patch out is all I've used for the last few yrs. I've only been shooting seriously for a few yrs, and it was recommended by someone more in the know when I asked them what product would you use if it was the only one you were using "off their shelf". Take that for what it's worth as I'm cheap, and he knew I only shot in factory stuff.

Now... after reading all the CLR posts as of late on here I decided maybe I should use it on a few guns that had 5-600 rds with nothing used but the WO/PO . I do believe CLR removed some more "stuff " than the WO/PO hadn't , but I'm also pretty sure it also removed the Dyna tek bore coat I had applied to one of the rifles...

I had a grey slimy coating on my cleaning rod from the 2nd rifle that I didn't have on the first rifle which wasn't treated with the DTBC. Now I fear I've fouled the bore with this mess. I've shot it since with some mismatched components just to see if I could throw together a training load with what I had on hand, and it didn't like it. I ran into pressure and pierced a primer at only 2/10ths over max. I cleaned it again including the CLR again, and didn't get any more grey sludge. Getting it borescoped Tuesday ...

How's that for technical test results? ... lol

I tried CLR for the first time , after finishing a good barrel clean . Alot of something came out . After all the posts , I pulled the trigger on a Lyman Bore scope ordered from Brownells today .

I want to get all the guess work out of the way and see for myself what's going on inside the barrel . Never thought I needed one until now . And it's just another tool in the shed .
 
I used CLR after shooting last weekend. I did a number on the carbon but didn't totally clean it without brushing. And no, the patches were not brown after my barrel was clean.
 
On Hunting trips I use Boretech Eliminator saves me carrying another bottle.. All other times I’m using Boretech Carbon and Copper remover,the Carbon remover gets a helping hand from Iosso and brush..
I’m tempted to try the foam spray as have heard it works well..
 
I've tried JB & Kroil oil , Wipe Out - Patch Out , KG - 1 & KG - 12 , Ballistol & patched out with Hoppes #9 . The last cleaning was with Ballistol the Hoppes , dry patched to finish , finished patches came out clean . Back in the safe untill the following Sunday . Read on the forum about CLR , picked up a jug to try , ran a patch on my Parker hale jag , ran it up an down about 10 times . The patch came out brown , ran a second patch , that patch came out pretty clean .dry patched the CLR out followed by Hoppes an dry patched to be safe all chemicals were out . Sunday I'll see if anything changes . What would be the difference if it said CLR gun cleaner . Quite a few have tried it . I switched to wet tumbling with SS Pins an dish detergent to clean my brass , when it first came out I wouldn't every give it a try but when I did I gave my dry tumbler , corn an walnut media to a friend . Nothing wrong with trying .

That, bronze brushes, one size smaller pierce jag than your caliber, pro shot patches, flitz/iosso, and red/blue jb is all youll ever need to clean any barrel. At a shortrange br match thats about all youll see used (and pretty much everybody there has a borescope and has limited time to get a barrel clean)
 
About the only thing I shoot these days is a 30BR although I am going to chamber something up for 600 yards.
It's not unusual for me to go 150 rounds between cleaning and this is what works for me.
I start out with patch out wipe out with excellerator , then to GM top engine cleaner ( the stuff in the old rusty quart cans ) for the carbon.
I must be in the minority because I've not heard anyone mention it .
Then finish with eliminator.
After the eliminator the patches come out snow white and we're ready for the next match.

I've used Wipe Out & accelerate for awhile , worked fine . After dry patching . I ran a patch with Ballistol , the patch came out dirty . Then I switched to KG -1 & KG -12 also worked well . After dry patching I ran a patch of Ballistol , also came out dirty .

Switched to Ballistol & Hoppes#9 worked the best , dry patched an tried CLR the patch came out dirty . I ordered a Lyman Bore scope . Everytime I finished all my cleanings the finished patch was clean . I'll see with the scope what's going on .

P.S. I do know for sure my barrel shoots best clean and dry .
 
Big jugs are nice.

That being said, there are dozens, if not hundreds of products out there.

I use Eliminator at the range and dedicated copper cleaner and carbon cleaner at home. I am pretty OCD with the cleaners at home and don't have one bronze brush or jag at all. I was shocked as hell when a shooting pal brought a bore scope to the range and we saw what copper and carbon were actually in the length of the bore after a week of cleaning.

Next purchase after a replacement barrel for the one that is shot out is a bore scope.
