What is your dream scope for long range competition?

Well then you're not really checking anything are you?
Yes I am. The scope to test is pointed into the objective end of the fixed reference scope then its reticle is aligned with that in the reference scope. Tracking, zooming, backlash and shock vibration errors can be seen easily through a 6X monocular.

wow..that is pretty rude for a VALID question.
some scopes will not reach 2000 without help.
some only have 40-60 moa elevation
the 5.5-22x has 100 moa elevation
something to consider when shooting REAL long range.

you asked the question,
i simply asked for clarification.
It was not that question only, but almost every post of yours has something negative or obnoxious. Just my observations...…..James

James, I'm in the same boat, kinda. I have 2 Schmidts, Not enough eley
to get out to 2100, GREAT glass. Couple of Razors gen 11 that have plenty of
elevation, just kinda crappy glass. I'm making the switch over to Niteforce,
I just got back from the ELR match at Q-Creek. Had Two 7 SAUMS with me.
My Back up rifle with the Razor, I was able to dial enough to get on a 2100
Yard plate. The Schmidt topped out and I had to hold more elevation.
What is this Unicorn scope you lust for?

i understand you are pissed.
i called you out on your primer seating thread.
it had been asked and answered before, this year. it might help if you read before you asked.
this thread is the same, you have asked a nice question, but no criteria.
WHAT IS LONG RANGE.
to some it maybe 300, others 600. 600/1000 is labeled LONG range BENCH REST.
to others LONG range begins somewhere past 1000.
i shoot a mag rifle match that goes 875 to just past 2000 yds...long range.
in aug we shoot a new group score match at 2000 yds ...long range..yes
a scope that works at 600 may not work at 2000.
so
I ASKED A QUESTION..define your question
pretty simple
nothing obnoxious or negative at all.
if you cannot handle questions, maybe stop asking poorly worded questions

Starting to be a common theme staying retired. Have you noticed you are the only one with a problem with James thread. Are you related to MikeinCo ? Ignore is your friend James.
Good advice. I placed him in the ignore category yesterday. Evidently, he has trouble reading. He was disturbed when I would not define long range for him....when it plainly stated in the OP that I shot 600 yards. This must be Mike in CO !!!!

It is the same Mikey!

I was once well off financially. No longer the case at all. I’d be happy with anything, i’ve got a 100 dollar Walmart scope that makes anything past 100 a challenge. I used a sightron sIII last week that was a world of difference. My goal is to compete at 600 so have been dreaming about several lol. Lots of loyal nightforce shooters out there... regardless my next 2 toys will be an “expensive” scope and rests.

You may want to check out Weaver T 36 or one of the SWFA fixed power scopes, I have no experience with Weaver however SWFA has a fixed 20x for $299 that will track 100%
I used several swfa with no regrets in fact my 3-15 is a great scope purchased off the samples list for $200 off retail.
My grandson used a fixed 10x on a 308 to shoot a 5 inch 10shot group at 600 yards no problem.

Jim

Thank you. I just discovered that scope last night on this site actually. I was wondering if anyone used them, thanks for the heads up. Should hold me over until I get back on track. Would it work to 600yards do you think?

Absolutely

The perfect scope for me is one that puts the bullets exactly where I am aiming when I pull the trigger . Not where they hit when they finally reach the target. That would be my dream scope. I would be willing to pay a lot for one like that.

A used t36 would be a perfect scope for you. They are solid and can be had on here for good deals at times
The challenge I have with the T36 is the small exit pupil of 1.1 creating a sensitive eye relief
I prefer a 4 inch if possible.
That's just me and my old eyes.

Funny you should say that, I mentioned to a friend the other day after he pointed out my group was left of the bullseye that they went exactly were I was pointing when the trigger got touched off.

After testing many scopes over the years, I have a dream scope that I have never used, but have read enough about it to covet those who have used it. Some of my favorites that I have tested are the 36X Valdada BR, the 42X NF BR, the 10x-60x March LR, the Sightron 10x-50X, the 10x-50X Kahles MOAK,View attachment 1054645 and the Vortex Golden Eagle.

All of the above have been great scopes for 600 yard competition, but I would love to try a scope that I call the M.O.A.B.S. (mother of all big scopes). This is a BIG, Expensive scope, but for those that can afford the cost ($3695) and the weight (3#) it may be the ideal long-range scope. It is a 12x-52x by 56 mm scope on a 40 mm tube. It features superb Schott glass from Germany and has a unique parallax adjustment. Good shooting....James
I had a problem with my Nightforce scope. With a 20 moa base I needed 22 MOA at 1000 yards with my 308. Tried everything including reversing rings ect. Sent it back to Nightforce and they sent it back saying it was within spec. Since it only had 45 moa I could not get out to 1000 yards with it. Purchased the S&B 12x50 with 75 MOA of elevation adjustment and am well pleased with it. I see Nightforce shooters banging their turrets with their ECIs after adjustment and these guys are good shooters some holding national records. I wonder about scopes with a set power at 40 or 45 power. What do you do when the mirage makes the target a blur. I recently shot a national record at 1000 yards in FTR with the scope set at 30 power because of mirage

It is not just the recoil, but barrel vibrations and muzzle blast. No collimator can reproduce that. Matt
I smack my collimator with a mallet in all directions and it so moves and vibrates. That easily shocks the scope internal parts to come to rest somewhere in their tiny limited range of free movement. Especially adjustment backlash when fractions of click values are easily revealed.

Recoiling rifles force shocks scopes only in one axis. My collimator takes shock from any and all directions. It vibrates that way, too. Best feature is watching the reticle make "S" shape movements about its reference reticle zooming across the scope's magnification range.

I could use big firecrackers to simulate muzzle blast but don't think that's necessary.

You should read the scope testing thread in its entirety and see how we been doing it for years and how a modern scope works
