NEW TO 6 BRA

can anyone share a safe starting load for 6bra loading varget or 4895, pushing ELD 108's? I am shooting a 30" brux from greg taylor and really happy with starting results, shoots berger hyb. 105s well thru fire forming, just wanting to see if the 108s have a sweet spot.

I started at 29.6gr H4895 with 107 SMKs and stopped at 31.5gr as pressure was starting to show. You would be safe starting at 29.6gr H4895 and work up carefully.

Varget is slower like for like by at least 1.5gr over H4895 I find.

Good place to start ^^.

I guess my post would fit in here ok. Panda and 105 VLDs. I found a node at 2950+- fps using 31.5 of Varget. I tested a little hotter but the group opened up. I am going to test H4895 so I should start my test at a little under 30gr?
thanks

I have two barrels.. one with .120fb and one with .130fb.. with my lot of Varget I started at 31gr and have went up to 32gr with no pressure and velocities over 3k...both are 30" tubes.

The barrel with .120fb and a Berger 105hybrid .010 in the lands went like this.
31.2gr-2961avg
31.4gr-2971avg
31.6gr-2993avg
31.8gr-3006avg

I formed at 28.5 H4895 with 105 vld @ .005 jump. Most are forming with 29-29.5 H4895. I have a 28” Krieger and the brass formed fine with my load. 2760 FPS

I was fireforming yesterday with H4895 29.5 grn.. BR-4's...Sierra 107's..jammed..Lederer 7.8 twist. First day out with Labradar, missed some shots but the ones that showed up were at low 2800's...brass looked nice..primers nice..dang Sierra's shot real good also...ten shots, 1.5 inch ave. for 3 groups at 300 yrds, can't wait to see what the customs do...EPS..PB's..Bart's..BIB's..VT's. :)

The BRA still shoots well when fire forming cases. Just to save my good powder and bullets, I experimented with fire forming using 14.0 grains of Unique and filled the rest of case with instant grits and then plugged the case with a small piece of waded up tissue paper. Yep, grits... No COW here in the south. Worked up from 11.0 grains and found that 14 was sufficient to get a nice crisp shaped shoulder. Worked well for me for what it is worth if you also want to save those precious Berger’s or Sierras.

well, the season went well, the BRA was very pleasing, i put some really good relays together, just not 2 consecutively. definitely worth fire forming thru a match, still have not fired 108s thru it yet, got a few loaded light to check fps.

Shot a 1199/1200 in Jan forming with 105 hybrids and 29.8 gr of Varget. Have just enough virgin brass to shoot the next one day match in April!!!
