The JC higgins model 31, I was fortunate to find one at the local gun show in mint condition from an older Gentleman who walking around the show, this Particular model shoots all 3 .22 shorts longs and along rifles, it also came with The built-in retractable sling in the stock, These rifles are becoming harder to find, especially in mint condition, they're awesome shooters, they have one great feature that we found out about recently, we are able to shoot the .22LR CCI quiets, low noise, sounds like a pellet gun, and they function perfectly, (semi automatically) it's like having a Built-in silencer, gun holds 15 rds. Try and get ahold of one of these while you still can, They are truly slicker than snot !!

The first 22 I had as a kid . Eventually the Firing Pin broke and I Sold it to a guy who repaired it . I also picked up a JC Higgins Marked / Weaver 3/4 Inch Scope which had an unusual Blue and Brass exterior .

I just finished re-blueing one of these for friend, the metal was in poor shape as the rifle had been poorly taken care of.
The retractable sling was something I had not seen before. It functions beautifully, the bore is very good, and the wood cleaned up nicely. It turns out that this was his first rifle, a gift from his father many years ago. Sometimes when we were young things we would value now were not taken care of. I regret not keeping my first two .22 rifles as they provided me much enjoyment. This rifle now holds a special place in its owners safe and memory.

Congrats on a nice find Mark. Those were really nice little rifles. Made by Hi-Standard if I recall. Never saw one with the sling intact; always broken / missing in the ones I worked on for folks. There was another model that had just a regular forend, without the wood coming back along the sides. I think there was a Model 25, or 21, or whatever, all based on the same action.

I believe the other model is a 28

I picked up one of these yesterday. Super cool gun. Mine is in great shape and the sling works perfectly.
