Box test, tall target, tracking test

My experience with tactical scopes we test and retest for tracking all the time to add any correction factors into balistics computer is that many don't track 100% , we tested bunch i have seen high end scopes that were up to 12% of ,were resent to factory and fix was still 2% off. But tha twe can compensate for in balistics computing.

Reason for scopes moving more or less than they shoudl is as error in assembly process , imagine erector tube and turret push rods , even the slightest longitudinal misaligment results in tracking errors. In realitiy for target shooting these errors are of no consequence at all .

These errors are more of interest to people shooting long range posibly single shot on target where things have to work out. Even so in our balitic solutions we always have correction factors to account for scope errors.

I've spoken to Alan at Sightron about these scopes and tracking issues he recommends a 20 Moa rail to ensure a close optical center at longer ranges this he says gives you a clear sight picture
Interesting that he mentioned the rail angle that's perfect for ammo that has a 20 MOA drop at target range.

He is right in that target image quality is best when all the scope's lens elements are centered on the scope's main outer tube axis.

I disagree. Most errors are at right angles to the longitudinal axis. It's mostly the tolerances in optics focal lengths changing the size of focused images. A small amount in the mechanical ratios of click movement to inner tube angle change is also a cause of inexact changes per click. The target 1st image size gets bigger as target range gets closer. Same click change amount gets less. May not be fully corrected by range focus adjustments.
