Redding dies?

I use the RCBS small base dies for AR15 and AR10. Only thing is that even with vibratory cleaning until the brass shines, 223/556 brass will tear up those dies after a while. Keep them clean and polished with IOSSO or JB.

I think to use those rcbs dies you need a sho nuff match chamber. My cle chamber works great and my dads wylde does too. The colt match hbar .223 i have is way too big for that die. I havent even tried just a nato chamber fired brass in it

I started reloading in 1980 using RCBS dies exclusively. I have since switched gears by using only Redding dies for all rifle rounds and RCBS Carbide dies for all pistol rounds. I found that I get slightly better concentricity out the Redding rifle dies rather than RCBS. When working up precision rounds I use Wilson dies.....

No I did not shoot it from a rest. If I had a rifle stringing like that I’d inspect the bedding and stock ferrule. I bet it wasn’t properly centered.
All the US military teams noticed that stringing with reloaded M118 brass in 30 caliber semiautomatic service rifles. No stringing with new cases. My observations also.

Did you ever shoot a 20 shot test group with its fired cases reloaded for the M1A and extreme spread under 5 inches at 600 yards?

Excessive out of square military M80 new ammo case heads was the reason gunsmiths Swenson and King made the 4 lug Swing single shot action for British commonwealth fullbore teams. It reduced shot stringing their 2 lug SMLE rifles refitted to shoot NATO ammo had as they were not allowed to shoot reloaded ammo

I never shot test groups. I just shot the rifle in local club matches as practice. I never noticed stringing. What I did worry about was x-count which was my indicator of whether the rifle was shooting. I also loaded to have the same zero with M118 Match Ammo and later with M852. Mine were within one click on my M1As (both of them). That’s how I shot the course back then.

Whether it was from out of square ammo or just plain lousy quality in the bullets, the stinking English (Commonwealth) 7.62 Ball ammo was so bad past 300 yards it shot hollow groups. I know, I was living in Canada during the early 1970s and shot that crap for 5 years. I do know that if you subbed a Hornady 150 FMJ groups shrank a lot. I also know that with 42 gr Norma 203 and a 168 gr bullet my rifle shot sub inch. The trick was a Schultz and Larsen barrel would shoot that crap reasonably. I never bothered again as I started shooting US Highpower. The swing action came in during that time as I was leaving that style of shooting. It was designed to be as rigid as humanly possible. It isn’t perfect even for that style of shooting.
