Is anyone actually shooting this round yet?
Wonder what the real life experience is.

One of our accomplished match rifle shooters shot .224V at our 25 Feb. 300 yd. Mid range using a brand new White Oak 24" match rifle upper. She was doing load dev with 75 gr. Bergers as I recall. She scored a 583-22x from her initial set of handloads, and saw there was much work to do. Based upon this initial observation, one might asses the .224V has a ways to go as a consistent X-ring puncher.

Thanks for the info. There is very scant response from any users which leads me to believe it is not being used.

Watched video 2. Too long. He has terrible technique. Improper seating stem and seating die. Should have waited for proper dies, etc. No wonder accuracy was bad. I did not see his accuracy with factory loads to compare. Not a fair test of cartridge.
I will wait for a test that I have confidence in

Here is what she sent me after the match, when I asked her which rifle she shot and what score. The 90s were factory FGMM.

"Not great,. Valkyrie,. I shot a 200-11, 198-7 with the 90's. Then tried the Berger 75's. They shot bad"

I have a Stag AR coming in 224 Valkyrie, I thought I’d shoot it while I wait for the LMT scheduled to be completed in May or June.

Wonder why she didn't continue with the Fed Match 90's? Looks like she was shooting well with them. What rifle was she shooting?

She just wanted to try the 75s since she has some. The problem, she just stuffed the ammo with no testing. On the same reduced 300 yard course she shot the 90s except in standing where she used the Federal varmint load, she shot 790.

She ordered the complete upper from Whiteoak with a 7T Krieger.

The caliber might have a lot of potential at longer ranges usig the 90 smk but someone is going to have to do the laborious load development and testing. Tha White Oak Krieger is a quality combo. My age and health don't allow me to devote the time to it anymore and gas guns are more difficult than bolts. I am tempted to chamber a bolt for it with a 26-28" barrel with thr proper throat and twist for the heavies. Should give good barrel life. Someone should make some good brass for it. I do not know if the Federal will.take extensive case prepping.
Just a few thoughts.

Does anyone have 800 and 1000 yd accuracy yet...real shot groups ..not pings on steel or hits on something but real measured shot groups?

I can't find any proof this is a "long range " caliber but the cheer leaders have been claiming it is for months now but no proof.

Plenty of posted result at 100 yds.....meaningless, that is just a zero.

I am wondering...its a LR caliber with accuracy or is it a long range caliber that pretends to be.

I have three Valkyries. 2 bolt guns and an AR.
One of the bolt guns is a Savage Varmint action, the other is a Remington Action.(Wife's gun)
Both of those barrels are Criterion, Varmint taper,, Fluted 26" with 7 twists.
The AR barrel is an 18" Mc Gowen also a 7 twist.(Long Coyote gun)
All barrels are threaded for suppressors.

All in all, the guns shoot factory ammo poorly. Handloads work well in the bolt guns with exception of the "90's"
After speaking with some of the bullet manufacturers, they have come to the conclusion that the twist needed to shoot
90's, is at least a 6.5 twist. (This reminds me of the .204 needing at least an 11 twist to shoot 40's consistently.)

My best results so far is using Berger 80 grain VLD, 25.4 grains of CFE 223, Gold Medal Primers, Federal Case .010 off the lands. At 100 yards I've placed 5 shots in one ragged hole. This load is in the middle of pack for speed, as far published data is concerned.

I have not had a chance to shoot longer than 100 yards with this load yet, nor have I chronographed it yet.

I have several other loads loaded (Amax and Sierra's), but either time or weather has interfered with my testing.

Will the Valkyrie be a long range wonder? Only time and testing will tell.

I am toying with making 20 Valkyrie, though. On paper it looks like it rival my 20 Titans....

gundog

I see this cartridge as a lame attempt by Federal to replicate the Creedmoor. I wish everyone the best of luck with it but from this chair, if I want to shoot 90s, I'll stick with a 6mm of some stripe. YMMV

Hmmmmm, maybe ............ but if so why are there a lot of 223 Rem FTR competitors getting excellent results from 90s, and 90gn Berger VLDs at that which are longer than SMKs, from 1:7 twist barrels? Back in 2011, I had excellent results from the 90gn Berger VLD at a shade over 2,900 fps MV at 800 to 1,225 yards at Blair Atholl in the Scottish Highlands - ~1,000 ft ASL and temperatures in the 80s. In fact it performed so well, I won a 1,000 yard match in the Scottish Long-Range Championship that weekend and the competition included some half dozen members of the US FTR team. In a coached team shoot my 223 with 90s saw the second highest score in the 1,110 yards stage. All this is a 7 twist barrel.

Getting 0.224 90s to shoot well in 223 is well known as a tricky proposition. I imagine it is just the same in the 224V.

It would seem the 7 twist aren't cutting it for 90s so it will be little before you get more info on 6.5 twists. IMO if yur not going to shoot a 90 long range you might as well stick with .223
