Freeware target analysis program

I seem to be having the same issue as described on the AR15.com thread, I am not sure if I can rely on the reference line. It looks fine if it is traced horizontally but the starting and ending points change location if traced at an angle.

This has been corrected in 4.0.0.1 but 4.0.0.2 should be a much better version; skip 4.0.0.1.

what do I need to do to 'save' the picture. My options are greyed out. Plus I mentioned earlier that my 'holes' were very small no matter what caliber I put down. Other than that it's useful and easy to use. I like it.

Thanks for the post. I have those greyed out because I've not even tried to implement that functionality yet. I got carried away with the creation of the menu (and overly optimistic of my abilities to get coding done). I'm working on printing the targets now (when I'm not fixing what was broken in the first release).

The "holes too small" problem should be corrected now, along with several other irksome behavior. Seek the file 4.0.0.2 (TarGEt4002.zip) on this thread.

I am using Windows 10 with Chrome and Norton Security. They (it) did not like your .deploy software and your setup.exe program and removed them from the directory. Hope this helps.

I'm sorry but I've got no clue what to do about that; I'm letting Visual Studio Community 2017 do the build and package for deployment, so it's Microsoft's ballgame. I'm not sure why any AV would trigger on it. I'm running Windows 7 with Microsoft's Security Essentials and I'm not into "high-risk" behavior online (meaning I don't troll around on the dark web and I almost never surf gay goat porn) so I'm pretty confident my system isn't infected with anything.

Not being a jerk, just saying: with a number of others able to download and use the software without reported problems, I'm going to continue my efforts to improve the functionality of the software. I am trying to fit this endeavor into time taken around taking care of an ill family member out of state, so this is a "space-filler" project. When it functions to the level I hope to achieve, then I can hit up some of the developer forums to find out why the MS installer package isn't being tolerated by W10 and Norton.

In the meantime, it wouldn't hurt to do some basic searches for Visual Studio Community installer packages triggering warnings from Norton or other AV software; see if either a) search results allay your concerns or b) offer a straight up solution.

I have the same issue with very small markers. When it does that and the target processes the group is all out of whack. It's really nice when it works though. Thanks for letting us play with it.

This problem should be corrected now. Look for TarGEt4002.zip on this thread. Should work fine; it corrected (to my testing) the problems that TripletDad (on this thread) was having (thanks to him for sending me his target JPG so I could test (and correct) the problems. Please try the current version. If you still have problems, let me know and I'll ask for your image file and see if there's still a problem in the software.

One thing that has changed is that now the user must set the reference line before marking bullet holes; that and using the correct variable (my mistake) sets the bullet hole size/placement correctly.

Sorry, I apologize. I did not read the OP's post sufficiently well to see that he was the software author. I should not have posted a reference to another piece of software. I will read more carefully in the future.

Bonus points for being a stand-up guy. Thank you.

There is nothing wrong with the software you mentioned. My software maybe is at the same level as their target-analysis portion. Maybe; that's for y'all to determine. My software does not (yet) print or save the targets and information (their's does). I'm working on the printing. I'll do saving after that. I wrote this for three reasons: 1) I can't say without saying something kind of negative about another provider, 2) I have significant downtime while caring for a relative out of state, 3) because I'd never written a finished program in the Visual Studio/.NET world (only VB6) and I wanted to see if I could.

The last thing is that I won't ever charge for my software. I'd like this to be immediately available to everyone forever and free. Me, I just needed something to use maybe once a month for a few months while I tumble down the rabbit hole of "accuracy". Once I find what impacts what and which loads work well for me in no more than 3 rifles, I probably won't ever analyze another target or tweak the loads; I'm not a target/benchrest shooter. Obsessing about groupings is a short-term (I hope) thing. Putting numbers to the groups has been invaluable for comparing one load to another.

Nice work. Should be fun to use, and an easy way to measure targets.

Thank you so much.

Please look for TarGEt4.zip on this thread which corrects some functionality with images gleaned from sources like digital cameras and cell phone cams (flatbed scanners seem to scan at 1:1 and the images worked fine (that's what I did all my initial testing on)). It should correct all troubles others have reported so far.

Played around with it some more today. There is an issue with the size of the picture being used. Previous targets I used and even posted the pictures of on the first page were scanned. Today I tried to use a picture that I took with my phone. Started out with really tiny circles that others have had. I kept resizing the picture smaller and smaller and the circles kept getting bigger and bigger.

I'm sorry for the frustration; it's not you, it's me. I'm embarrassed, I had some stupid stuff, but simple stuff, done incorrectly (including using the wrong, but similarly-named, variable in one calculation which caused the holes to be too small).

Try 4.0.0.2 (TarGEt4002.zip). Sorry. :(

Closing in on nearly perfect. Thansk for all the work you're doing on this project. We must sound like 12 year olds.

Thank you. I'll get it there. No, not like 12 year olds...nobody's calling it or me nasty names. I appreciate the time and patience being given to me to try to get it right. :)

Mac version out there? I would even pay if it was reasonable.

I've never done anything with a Mac but if it was an easy port, I would do it and not charge for it; thanks for the offer. I did some quick reading and there is a Visual Studio (VS) for Mac product from MS. However, some more reading indicates it does not support WinForms (which my program uses). Furthermore, it appears to only support C# and F# (I don't even know what F# is) and I've never done any flavor of C programming. The final nail in the coffin is that I do not have a Mac to test it on.

There are some projects I've heard of through the Force which enable Windows software to run on a Mac but I've never seen such in action so I don't know how well it/they work. A quick search found this: https://www.howtogeek.com/187359/5-ways-to-run-windows-software-on-a-mac/

However, that may be more trouble than it's worth.

Thanks for the update. I'll give it a try with some targets from today.

OneDrive link if anyone wants to pass it around. Posted on AR-15.com already.

Thank you...again. :) I found that I have a SomeDrive thingy with my gmail account...I should probably figure out how to use that. :) I should be self-reliant. But in the meantime, I very much appreciate your help.

Please let me know if you have any troubles or concerns with the new targets. Hopefully I've got this dialed in for the simple target analysis portion. I'd like to move back to the printing code.

Thanks for looking into it. I did not know you were the programmer. Look like good software and I compliment you on it.
Been mac only almost all my life and ya I have never heard of F# either.

Ditto; really like the tool!

One thing that would be nice would be to be able to clear the data for a picture so that you could easily run multiple targets on the same photo (see attached) without having to reload the photo. Or maybe there is a simple way to do this that I'm missing?
