rapid fire f-class?

Assume shooting at an f-class sized target under high-power rapid-fire rules: 10 shots in 60 or 70 seconds.
What rifle, equipment and techniques would you go with?
I see 3 basic possibilities.

1. Standard single shot f-class rifle with fast single loading. I have done this under time and have missed time. Leaves very little time for the actual aiming of the shots.

2. Bolt action repeater.
a. off the shelf precision rifle or something.
b. something like a 'match' bolt action tube gun or custom
c. custom f-class rifle with DBM added.

3. Semi-auto, probably AR.

We need to consider how well the rifle works in the rapid-fire stage(s) but also how well it still does in the slow-fire stages.

I have a rifle setup like that for double duty. F-Class (TR) and PRS/NRL. I use it for PRS style shooting and my wife uses it for F-Class. It has a mag even though it gets single loaded in F-Class, simply so the round doesnt fall out.

It is mag fed for PRS. And of course the muzzle device, suppressor, and different bipod are put back on.

In the beginning my Ftr rifle wore a Manners T4A mini chassis, and shot very well. That stock currently resides on a tac rifle which sees a bit of rapid fire. A similar setup would be my choice for your situation, using the stock design which fits you best.

Just as an FYI, in case you didn't know... they do make a 'sled' for AI mag wells. Little spendy for a hunk of plastic (over simplification, but still...) yet it *does* work very well - certainly feeds smoother than just tossing one on top of the feed lips of the magazine and hoping it doesn't get hung up on the way into the chamber. Might be a nice 'gift' for the wife...

In Australia where electronic targets with no delays have taken over too many ranges in plague proportions, and 10 shot strings are the norm, getting 10 shots down with full points in under (sometimes well under) 60-70 seconds is a regular occurrence. In 1000yd benchrest, taking 60 seconds to get 10 shots downrange would be considered slow.
With regular benchrest or F class style stocks, it comes in handy to have an ejector (either spring/plunger ejector or Kelbly style mechanical ejector) to get the fired case out. Then have your unfired ammo in an ammo caddy next to your loading port. I intend to get one of those benchrest type push button ammo feeders to use with my Dasher if I decide to go in a comp with non delayed ETs. Using this system will not be much slower than a magazine fed rifle, but still keeps the stiff, fast cycling single shot actions and not knocking your ammo around feeding out of a magazine.

There is no rapid fire in f class therefore a mag fed rifle or ar is somewhat useless. When the ro says "with one round load" that means one round. As far as sending 10 rounds down in 60 or 70 seconds....good luck

When you get into shooting that fast at more than 300 yards you are really getting into spray and pray mode if you are not getting feedback on POI. If you are not shooting on E targets it's really not feasable. There is a reason that the NRA doesn't do rapids past 300 yards, or rattle battle on a silhouette out to 600.

Look at the vids of PRS type shoots where the shooters have limited time to get off x shots. If they get a switch they tend to miss several in a row because when you are required to shoot that fast you just don't have time to set up the shot and look at the wind indicators.

As far as sending 10 rounds down in 60 or 70 seconds....good luck

If leaning toward f-class. Targets pulled by humans about the fastest you could shoot would be 6 to 8 seconds between shots, with an occasional 5 minute delay to repair a target E-targets with no programed delays, I would see no problems with 3 seconds between shots. These times can be easily achieved with a single shot bolt action rifle. Proper rest and bag set up, practiced shooting position, ammo holder at the ideal location, a good tracking stock and you ready to rock.

I still do not understand how and why people get all in a hurry to buy equipment for a particular sport, without actually going to an event and see what the best at that game are doing and do that. Seems simple enough. Again, please go to a match in the sport that you want to start.

I would love to see a course of fire with a rapid fire stage in midrange F class. You could do 20 rounds rapid at 300 and 40 slow at 600. Or 20 rapid at 300, 20 slow at 60 and 20 slow at 1000. It would make 300 yards relevant, and more like normal high power, and less like benchrest.

I doubt it will ever happen since the cat is out of the bag, but that shoudl have been done from the start if you ask me.

People do it in cross course high power all the time - it's the normal course of fire.

could my savage ftr be converted to DBM by dropping it in a chassis?

I guess this would work best with a heavy open gun set up perfectly to require very little (re)aiming? I'm typically shooting a sinclair f-class bipod on wood much like the earlier picture.

Interesting thoughts but I'm still thinking about how they work out,
I've done just enough rapid practice with service rifle(4.5) optics to know there is NO feedback there even at 200.

I've assumed that lack of feedback during the 10 shots is an essential part of the challenge of rapid fire.

On the other hand with a 50x scope at 200 there is some chance to steal some feedback. That's a plus but also a temptation to slow down too much.

You're off track.
I shoot registered f-class when I have a chance to drive far enough.

Locally I shoot my f-class gear at f-class targets alongside what is really an XTC CMP shoot. I have to somehow accommodate the rapid fire portion of the CoF. A bad shoulder prevents me from slinging up and just doing the CMP shoot 'right'.

Essentially yes.
I'm shooting f-class while most of the match is high-power xtc with a prone rapid stage.

Right now I'm not being strictly held to the time limit but if I go over everybody else is laying there waiting for me.

It would be simpler to just gear up to make the time every time.
