Loading 6mm creedmoor to 2900 FPS for barrel life?

What are your thoughts on doing this?

I planned on picking up a 700, building it up slowly, and rebarreling to 6br but with 6creed available in decent factory rifles for a lot less I’m considering starting there and rebarreling to 6br when it’s done.

98% of my shooting is done at 300 and that is why my first choice was the 6br and I don’t need more than 2900 FPS. My goal is getting as close to 6br barrel life and accuracy as possible.

My initial thoughts are the Bergara HMR (or HMR Pro) or the RPR.

You did not mention what discipline you want to shoot. I think you will be happier in the long run building a rifle. A custom barrel will be more accurate and probably have longer barrel life. For what it is worth the 6BR is shot at 1000 yds. by more than a few shooters who can read wind. The Dasher or other improved offspring are that much better. They are very accurate and that is the goal. You might consider one of Gary Eliseo's tube gun stocks for a Remington action. Very cost effective and he makes 6br specific magazines that are outstanding. In my mind a better option than a tactical chassis.

I would say the barrel life of a 6CM would be considerably less than a 6br. Seems like you are trading velocity you don't need for accuracy and barrel life by choosing the 6CM over the 6br.

In my hay day I shot the 6/250 and that's the 6 Creedmoor nowadays. It's a great caliber but the 6BR can keep up with it with much better barrel life. Like the post above says, I'd do a custom barrel with a freebore that will work well with the 6BR Norma case, and bullets for your intended discipline. Note you will need a small firing pin bolt and firing pin assembly with the small primers in the 6BR or Creedmoor case.

What is a "small firing pin bolt"?
A firing pin that's around .060" vs a larger one to keep the primers from blanking under high pressure.

As far as loading down, just shoot it where it wants to shoot. It's sort of like buying a Corvette and then saying I'm only going to drive 40 mph down the highway to make my tires last longer.

This is some good advice here, I loathe the word node, the barrel will have pressure ranges as to where it will shoot. And you have no idea if it will shoot at 2900fps.

What is a "small firing pin bolt"?
A bolt with firing pin hole for .062" firing pin. This will prevent blanking or piercing small primers. Lapua Creedmoor brass is available in both small and large primer pockets but 6BR is available only in small primer. Loading at 2900fps vs. 3200fps to extend barrel life is nonsense. The difference is negligible. It can give you better brass life however. Shoot it where it wants to shoot.

Dont try to download it. Shoot it where it shoots and replace the barrel just like you would any other caliber in the same amount of rounds. Its the price we pay
