Followup question to my neck turning question

I went through both boxes of new Lapua brass. Measured 30 from each box. The thinnest on each and every piece was .012 the thickest on each was .0125. Loaded rounds came out to .2695. Fired rounds were .2725 reamer print for neck is .273. Empty unsized are at .268. Loaded rounds are unsized just stuffed with consumables and shot. This is for my 6mmBRA and just fired in the hillside, not for groups just fire forming some brass to send in for sizing die.
Question is, is there any need to turn this batch of brass?

Speaking for myself, I would not want a 1/2-thousandths variance. Plus only checking 30 from each box, its probable the variance could be worse. At minimum, I would turn them to .0115" myself.

Good Luck with what ever you may chose to do.

If you are a new BR shooter you might leave them unturned.
Your turning and shooting skills both may need some practice before you can tell any difference.

I would uniform the necks on the brass. Most likely if you measure 3 points around the neck you will see the variations. Cutting them to the thinnest part of the neck is usually called making a " clean up pass". Often that does not trim the neck all the way around.....My BRA has a 268. so i am cutting them a bit thinner.

Rick

For what you are doing .0005 ( half a thousandth) is probably not going to be an issue at all. In regards to the variance between the measurement across the neck of a fired round and the print . That is due the brass cooling and retracting away from the chamber. If that didn't happen you wouldn't get the cartridge case out . Don't use the measurements off a piece of fired brass to determine your chamber size. Use CERROSAFE or a like product to make a chamber cast to get accurate information.
