Marine snipers are getting new Mk 13 rifles

i am not surprised at the cost..i built my own and consider it a $12,000 rifle
well over $6000 in parts
mine has an a5 stock, the 7 uses a more expensive stock (folding)
it is designed to shoot mk248 mod1 (220 smk)
( the mono-pod is not 'std")

just not so.
parts cost is over 6000...that stock makes it more like 7000,, not sure what they pay for the suppressor a 9" thunderbeast is about 1200
stiller mk13 action
mk 13 bbl
neither are off the shelf items
Wow, If anything should be investigated is the cost of that rifle, Well I guess you have to figure in who all are getting greased. ....jim

But, Kyle tells us he received an upgraded .300 Win Mag during one of his tours “In my third platoon – the one that went to Ramadi – we got all new .300s. These used Accuracy International stocks, with a brand-new barrel and action. The AI version had a shorter barrel and a folding stock. They were bad-ass.”

that is good enough for me,,,with all the waste that goes on in the system if they have to pay 13,000$$ to get our Snipers what Chris Kyle calls bad ass then the heck with the money,,,

I do think he said he liked the 338L better but they didnt have a silencer to fit it and the 50 was to heavy to carry so he used the 300 WM the most,,

I guess in the end what Mr Big said is right on. What the military wastes money on is staggering. If just one more marine gets home safely it is all worth it In my mind. I have to send quarterlies to Uncle Sam for taxes. Every now and again I send a note in with the check, This is for military jet fuel only! I am so...... on somebodies watch list! And yes, I realize they still just piss all my money away on welfare. Maybe 13k is a bargain for what they get.

when you are the BEST,,you need the BEST,,semper fi,,they saved my life more than I saved thiers Capt. Dan,,,thank you.

lol, designed by the navy for the SEALS.
in use for years by the SEALS.
now that the men have proven the product,
we can let the juveniles have some.

just like it has always been, one more hand me down from the step parents.

Id rather see them put $20k each in 1000 sniper rifles than the $200 hammers and $400 toilet seats. The only thing i would have rather seen was to give the contract to a small independent shop instead of crane. Kickbacks are about 1/4 of that price im sure.

Dusty, you hit the nail on the head, That gun is a just a bunch of over the counter assembled parts. Stiller has the action for sale on his site........ jim

did you go add up the cost of the parts....you make a lot of comments,, i built one.
the AI stock is over 2000
the receiver is a CATALOGED item seldom on the shelf..look at the cost.
the mk 13 bbl is again listed in the catalog available when they make them for crane. not a stock part
the bipod is a stock part br swivel
the suppressor maybe, i do not know but it is not cheap
the bottom metal is stiller and an ai mag not cheap
not a stock trigger
the 5.5-22x can be an expensive scope depending on which model ,else it is only 2500

these are not mass produced, it is build like a custom br rifle..labor is not cheap and it is not a fast job.
dusty, do you sell your products for cost ???

I'm sure the kickbacks are plenty, and I'm sure any independent shop would like to make 6K per rifle if the 12K price is rifle alone. Thing is, it's a contract, you're at their call. I have a gunsmith friend who does military work, I can tell you when they ask for something, or changes, even though he has employees, his focus is on those guns till they are done. Any other customer be damned, not sure that is where some business's want to be.
