New Guy here and a Question

I just found and joined this forum, it looks to be very informative, with lots of extra information.
I just purchased a Remington model 700 SPS tactical heavy barrel in a 223 caliber. I really like it except for the stock. In searching for a replacement stock I have found Short action vrs Long, and ADL and BDL. How do I tell which one I have? I do believe it's a short action, but what is the difference between the ADL and BDL?

ADL has a blind magazine, stock has a solid bottom with just the trigger guard. BDL has a hinged floorplate trigger guard assembly with integral spring and follower. .223 is short action, small bolt face.

Welcome,
A "BDL" style 700 is basically what most call a Rem 700 with a drop floorplate. An ADL has a solid bottom with just a guard around the trigger and a blind magazine. This means on an ADL all rds must be feed from above and to unload it you'll have to work the bolt to empty the mag. Your gun is a short action, and it should have a drop floorplate.

BDL has a hinged floor plate to unload cartridges, so bottom metal is longer. ADL will have just trigger guard for bottom metal.

Thanks for the fast replies :)
I have the BDL (hinged floor plate) with short action. Now to go and find a nice stock...

You can find some good deals in the guns, actions, stocks classified section. Just use the search function.

Looks like what you have there is a Hogue overmolded stock on that gun. If it is, it's either a bedding block version or non bedding block. Regardless of which stock that is, if you post It here on this forum, I think you'll find some buyers. As I'm sure you'll find some used stocks here that fit your application as well. Good luck and welcome.

Red hawk rifles had mcmillan HTG for $100 off factory price and no wait. They are good stocks and not too heavy.

Good luck and good shooting.

Yes it's a Hogue overloaded stock. Not sure about it being a bedding block or not.. It's a rubber stock, and I prefer wood. Boyds has one on there web sight I am looking at, I'll look here and see if there is a used one I like..

You'll find a good use SA Remington stock on here if your patient. I've purchased a few and all have been outstanding condition. These guys are all top notch and take care of their stuff. Prices are fair as well.

Welcome

You got several answers as to your rifle being a short action
the difference between a short action and a long action is this
short actions are designed for cartridges with a maximum of 2.8" OAL like you 223 or a 308 are good examples
Long actions are designed for cartridges with a maximum of 3.6" OAL such as
30-06, 300 Win Mag 338 Lap

I have to agree with all above and the guys here are honest and generous as a rule when selling items. Another possibility is to go to gunbroker.com and at the top of the page under categories click gun parts and then search Remington 700. Sometimes good deals can be found there and don't forget to try good old ebay either.
Welcome to the site and Best Wishes with your 700.

Depending on what you intend to do with your rifle, I like the stockys LRT stocks for the Remingtons, but there are many options out there that should fit your needs......

Id skip the boyds and go with a stockys stock with the aluminum bedding block. Short action bdl is what youre searching for.
Those are good stocks for the money
If that's what you do. Come back and research bedding the action
Even with the aluminum block you should bed at least the recoil lug area it has slop in it or clearance is the accurate word the action can walk back and forth sometime works the action screws loose
