Redding die boxes..aargh

just chain pulling! there is no perfect press or rifle. You need to have 3 of each

if you don't like the boxes, get some wood, plexiglass, and glue, make a nice presentation case with dividers and lables, hinged top, lites,,this gives a idea, going to make something to hang on the
wall

I use some of the Plano fishing tackle boxes. Think worm boxes. The kind you put inside your larger tackle boxes. I think the mod number is 4-16. There is 4 permanent compartments and dividers are provided to form 16 smaller compartments. I throw the dividers away. The tops are hinged with 2 good latches on the opposite side.
Each of the 4 compartment is 2" wide by 6.5" long and 1.5" deep. I haven't found any of the standard magnum dies, Redding, Whidden or Forster that won't fit and get the lid closed. Haven't tried 50 cal.
Outside dimensions are 7x9". Should be able to get them through Cabelas or Bass Pro. I use to get them at Gander Mountain, but they are no more.
They are a little larger but you can get all your stuff in them

The Whidden dies come in a very nice box. Agree, the Redding boxes suck a little bit.

My Redding boxes can be turned over and use as case holder/reloading boxes. I do not need reloading case holder blocks but if I did there are my Redding die boxes. My competition dies are RCBS, they come in a green box. There is nothing like matching luggage/boxes. And then there are the fiber boxes that RCBS started with and then they went to the Lime green fiber boxes and after the lime green boxes the came out with the dark green boxes. After the fiber dark green boxes they came out with the light green boxes and then the dark green boxes and then they came out with the green boxes with sharp edges and difficult to open.

My boxes do not match, I do have a drawer for orange Lyman boxes, Herter fiber boxes and C&H counter display boxes. And I have Lee dies, I do not know what happens to Lee containers when reloaders get them, I still have the (few) ones I purchases, they are awkward to stack and or organize.

and just think,,this is only for a BOX

Me thinks I (and others) may be suffering from a little cabin fever. We have more cold, nasty weather coming in tomorrow. I'm ready for Spring and some range days!:)
Better to blow off some steam on a box, rather than politics or reamer sharpening techniques:rolleyes:.

This annoys me far more than it should. Redding. Please. Fix it.

Me too!!! It the principle that ticks me off. I emailed redding to bitch about it and the tech replied ' Unfortunately that is the only die set box we have'.

Or in other words we havent bothered to put out bids for another company to make a redesigned 7 cent plastic box that will fit our dies when adjusted.

I did see that on midway etc you can buy empty boxes for 3-5 bucks for the other brands and some will fit the long reddings. I think forster ones will fit them. If so I will get some and mail my empty boxes back to redding while I am still suffering from cabin fever.

I had the same problem and it pissed me off. I solved the problem. I will never
buy another set of their dies. Spend the money for custom dies.

Pick up a left over piece of butcher block, or, a cutting board, and bore holes in it for your dies. Use a label maker to mark each hole. Find a cubbyhole in which to store the factory boxes:p

So what do you all do when you pay 150-250 bucks for a set of compet Redding dies and after you set the lock rings most wont fit back in the box?! I guess they would if Redding didnt make the boxes to be case loading blocks. Who the heck would use that anyhow? What would it cost them to make a better box?
Anyhow thats my beatch for the day after I looked at my shelf and have all these die boxes with lids open at 30 degree angles!
+1.....!

I am STILL puzzled by this thread, so much so that I went to my Redding box that holds my three die Competition die set. I had previously changed out one of the Redding lock rings for another brand that has a larger diameter and two flat sides.

My box snaps closed perfectly. It is a bit of a pain in the ass to open, though, and has been since it was NIB. Why are people having trouble closing the box? Was I blessed with a new box (set is three years old).
