Hog Patrol has started

I was out in Northeastern Pa over the weekend. They have bad snow since the Noreaster last week. One was hit along the road. Matt

We had a warm spell here in the South that brought them out. I guess several forgot how to look both ways before crossing the road during their winter's nap. Of course a groundhog wakes up in a new world everyday:)

We've had our residing three from the last two seasons in our back hedgerow out and about this past week as well. Lots of stretching and grooming at this point with limited food sources. Here's one of them from this morning after some light snow on March 13th:

When i was a kid in southern Pa. Pops would trap n shoot em.
Questions. Did ground hogs make to a state rodent status? If not, wheres pic of second shot? You know the 1 where the snow is painted red. And last but not least. Who raked all the lines in the snow like a Japanese garden?
Haveing a little fun is all with the picture. I know you would have had to flank him on the right ,as not to shoot toward road.

Howdy !

I've had occasion to shoot them out of the trees, when backstop and conditions were/are safe.

I once chased one up a small diameter sapling @ an Air National Guard base where I worked in NE Indiana. It was deep winter. The critter looked something akin to a bowtie going upwards on an ostrich neck.
The 'hog made it up about 4', and stopped to protest my approach.
I beaned him w/ an ice scraper I had in the truck, while he was still on the tree.

Once tried to kill one w/ a " beet fork ". Had him cornered in a " T-hangar " up @ DeKalb Co.
airport, Auburn Indiana. The beet fork had round-end tines. The "Soybeanus Digestus"
vigorously protested the proceedings, when the implement failed to make any penetration.
Fortunately, I had more "speed " than he did; and we both learned a little something.
But, I digress....

Still today, I prefer a ballistic solution.

I've seen 5 or 6 so far here in South central PA. It's still way early, and I need the time to do some load development while they're busy making next yrs targets. Wish we could be blessed with a few calm/warm shooting days this month, but it sure ain't looking very promising.

Hey Man, that's great writing style!!

I've been seeing some fresh road pizza here in southwest PA over the last couple weeks.
Man the second time I went to PA to shoot 1000yds, we drove 80 across coming from Ky and I had never seen so many deer hit by cars it was like every 2 miles blood and inners all over the place, it was just crazy this was 1987
